Why do we still play Warframe? Well...

A semi-response to the good Rahetalius' question of why people still play Warframe in 2020, taken from his recent "A Criticism of Digital Extremes" video. All opinions in this video are personal and not a reflection of anyone else. Content used is mostly my own, with exceptions of an excerpt from Rahetalius' video in the beginning and an old Twitch clip from AdmiralBahroo's first Warframe stream on Twitch.

In Warframe, players control the members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of cryosleep to find themselves at war with the Grineer, a matriarchal race of militarized and deteriorated human clones built upon metal, blood, and war; the Corpus, a mega-corporation with advanced robotics and laser technology built upon profit; the Infested, disfigured victims of the Technocyte virus, a reference to Dark Sector; and later the Sentients, an alien force of mechanical beings returning from the Tau system after being driven back centuries ago.

Fair Warning - at 4:16 there is a audio glitch that wasn't present in editing and was only noticed now. Sorry friends.

My clans dead, friend list dead, constant bad updates so I have no reason to play. I will come back for campaigns though still a fan of the story.

Warframe is one of those games that can be fun if you take a huge break and get back into it and also one of those few games is dead but alive if you know what I mean

Edit: none if you asked but putting this out there what I mean by dead but alive is that the community is alive and well but hardly any body but the players know the game it use to be such a fast and growing community it’s not any more yes a lot of people still play it but since DE sucks at updating atm people just are fed up with it

The sad truth is gamers have changed. I liked your comments, they reflect real stuff. We cant ignore a game or the devs going through a tough spot, whether they make it worse themselves or its just gamer fatigue, but man, the screams that the ship is sinking is really sad. A lot of games are grindier, buggier and have zero channels of communication with devs and yet this game tries and even despite certain weaknesses has given back so much. I see people saying, "im done, this is now garbage", and yet forget how bad the start was and where they have come from to get here. Thanks for the vid mate, and i sincerely hope your IRL matters get better with each passing day. Dont give up on warframe.

The game has been going 7 years strong. I don’t think anyone should regret the money or time that they’ve spent in the game. I started in 2016 and don’t regret anything. Awesome video.

So many games I loved have fallen from grace or died, either in population or completely. They all had their faults, but I still miss them all.
Blacklight Retribution
HAWKEN
Spiral knights
Global agenda
Need for Speed World
Vindictus
Firefall
Defiance
APB Reloaded..
And so many more.
I dont want to add Warframe to this list.

I play Warframe and a huge fan of the game. Warframe is diff than any other games and has a lot to put out, so much content that even though the devs make mistakes, it still won't hurt that much going back to enjoy what it already is.
Thank you for this video. You're amazing dude, I just subscribed!

I feel that DE is trying to hard to make ONE big update a year while I prefer a sprinkle over the entire year, the year following plains was a lot of cosmetic stuff and not much else which made me drop out for now and I haven’t had that urge to play again since that year, I remember when I started a bit after my hip operation it helped me pass the time because each 2 to 3 months there where a new warframe to try and get while now I feel like they rarely make more then 2-3 frames over 2 years

i initially only reinstalled Warframe after deleting it 2 years ago because the pandemic came around, most of my games i sold to repair my PS4, leaving me with almost nothing. i was also in the middle of installing other games i had left but after just sinking 3 days into Warframe, it stuck with me ever since. it didn't have that kind of punch when i first tried to 2 years ago which is surprising enough but revisiting and actually taking the time to get to know the game has really made me love it more than i thought i would. really love the community, the game and the devs, and i do really hope that we all come out of this not-so-ideal situation out as best we can.

Thank you for sharing your story. It's sad to see the community at war with itself and DE. I've watched the forums and comments and it's clear to me where each group stand. As much as things piss me off with Warframe i keep playing because no other game feels like it or does what it does better for me.
DE's biggest mistake was to not remain Independent. They only had the community to deal with and themselves. That freedom showed on their faces. The pressure of having to perform financially not just for themselves but for Leyou is definitely showing especially when the most recent Leyou financial report did not paint a good picture of Warframe, it lost millions and to add to that the Parent company itself is in financial decline and has been in a hostile takeover backed by TENCENT. People don't want to hear this yet they need to understand the pressures of what DE are now under and why they seem to be ignoring somethings and not others. It is a stressful time for everyone everywhere. At the end of the day we don't have to answer to a Parent company and explain why the game is losing millions and why so much was wasted on Marketing. We can safely turn the game off and play something else, or we can be a little more understanding. DE are doing what they can as best they can, it may not be how we want them to, it does not mean they don't care.

playing this game more than 6 years now since CBT, never get bored or quit the game, just playing it casual and for fun. MR28 here.

Warframe is the only game I have never once uninstalled from my pc in 7 years. 2670 hours gameplay and I still frequently play it. I got mostly everything in the game already, but I still get excited each time they update. All the friends I started with have stopped playing, so I learnt to solo everything, and constantly meeting new friends.
I love the game and I don't need anyone else to tell me that I shouldn't love it anymore. I also don't expect a game I played for 7 years to pump out contents that keeps me 24/7 playing it every week like a new player. I play when I want to play and when I run out of content I just go play something else and wait for them to update the game.
One thing I'm certain of is, if DE doesn't give up on the game, I will never stop playing.

I just started warframe. 3 weeks in, got my first prime - Chroma. Thank you for your video. This was one of the games that helped me snap out of mental limbo with this quarantine going on at our country.. working from home doubled up my stress and I felt like giving up.

I'm a new player to this game, joined about a week ago, and I've had a ton of experience with all kinds of MMO games, but the community of Warframe stood out leagues above. I'm already a part of a clan, have made a friend from my country who's in the same skill level (I'm MR6 and he's MR7 so we grind together usually), and have received some of the most genuinely wholesome experiences of my entire gaming life in this past week. It breaks my heart to see that this community that I've fallen in love with is dying, and most likely all because of DE being pressurised to increase the revenue made by this game for their parent company. I highly doubt a game that I've been hearing about for the past 5 years constantly from my IRL friends as a "cool" thing would have developers that don't care. DE isn't EA, and God bless them. I believe that the developers need a break from constantly pushing out new content and making changes, and need to just refresh themselves by spending some time with the community and hearing their voices, coz I've never seen a community care about their game as much as Warframe's. Warframe has the potential to be a genre-defying masterpiece, having an impact equal to the introduction of open worlds in games, if only DE and the content creators worked together to build it. I understand everyone's frustration, but the content creators need to be the constructive voices of the community and help DE get back on their feet. DE have probably just lost their way, they can be brought back.

P.S: I've just realised this became a massive essay so I'm sorry for putting this all in a YouTube comment, but I just had to let my thoughts out somewhere.

Honestly, this is the most positive words I’ve heard out of a content creator’s mouth regarding whatever storm the older creators kicked up. I completely agree with the right to complain, but some creators and their supporters (looking at you charity donator, that was shitty) just go about it the wrong way in my opinion. Thanks for posting this. You’re doing it right.

A beutiful video, nothing else to say. To see a person so positive as you are is a motivational refreshment, so active to even read every comment you get, hats off to you.

I have experienced that hope, the hope for an "ultimate" update ... but it's been more than 3 years since any update has been good for me( and apparently most people). I've let go of the game since quite a bit of time but I still look out for THAT update. It was a fun time playing but now it's over for me. Have a great time on WF, a game I considered among the best a long time ago :)
