Bernhard Langer has tipped Jon Rahm to have a real chance of winning the coveted Green Jacket at the 2023 Masters, which gets underway at Augusta National on Thursday.
The 65-year-old German great, who won the tournament twice, in 1985 and 1993, will make his 40th appearance this year.
"I'm convinced Jon Rahm has a chance to win on this golf course, and he has played extremely well the last few months with several victories," Langer said. "Whenever he plays, he seems to be in contention. Everything around his swing and short game seems to be working very well."
Langer also said that the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth will be amongst the favourites but warned that Tiger Woods, who has five Green Jackets in his wardrobe, should not be ruled out.
"Tiger Woods is an exceptional player," Langer said. "He has broken so many records. He has achieved so much. He is fit. He is strong. He is long and very strong mentally. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the leaderboard."
Langer has more modest hopes for himself, but said that he is fit and looking forward to maybe setting a new landmark at the Masters.
"I'm hoping to make the cut to become the oldest player again to do that and maybe even pop up on the leaderboard," he said. "But most of all, I'm going to enjoy the week."
Langer was speaking in front of the Mercedes EQS SUV which features a bespoke design in tribute to Mercedes ambassadors Rahm and Langer; celebrating two generations of the world's best players.
