$184 Threat to AMD: Intel i5-11400 CPU Review & Benchmarks vs. R5 3600, 5600X, 11600K

preview_player
Показать описание
Intel's new i5-11400 CPU is one of the best-positioned potential rivals to AMD's long-standing $200 dominance -- except this time, AMD doesn't have anything new in that range.

The Intel i5-11400, at time of writing, is actually in stock. Maybe Intel is onto something here: Launch a product with inventory and it becomes the de facto winner. In this benchmark and review of the Intel Core i5-11400 CPU, we'll be testing the i5-11400 vs. AMD Ryzen 5 3600, R5 5600X, the R7 2700, and of course will include the i5-11400 vs. 11600K and some other CPUs. AMD hasn't yet released an AMD R5 5600 non-X (or similar CPU) in the $200 price range, leaving Intel to compete alone unless counting previous-generation CPUs. This stopgap could be a strong one for Intel.

Finally something that might actually force a response from AMD on the entry level at least.

This chip has an iGPU, so it's a good candidate to get something running while waiting for a GPU to descend from the stratosphere.

GPU's? I remember them. They used to have them in stores, and you could actually go in and buy one.

I think the 11400 "doing okay" in PS is a huge understatement looking at performance increases per chip costs.

A lot of people forget that while these chips are not chart toppers, they also are not completely useless only because the "flagship" piece is not competitive. Great vid though ♪

AMD mistakes : Forget release budget cpus
Intel mistakes : Didn't give a shit about power consumption

I still don’t understand why Steve doesn’t mention the prices of F models. It’s not fair to compare a cpu with onboard graphics to a ryzen imo.

You should include 10400 too in this test

"The 11600K is priced at $270...and the worth mentioning."

Actually interesting, for intel. Intel officially has the budget crown.

Edit: yes, technically Intel has had the 10400K and 10100F as affordable products ($152 for the 10600K at the time of this writing, 10100 stock is difficult to come by) for a decent while, but the issue is that AMD's 3300X was still around to critique the notion that Intel had the budget crown on the low end, as well as many zen+ CPU's. The 11400 and arguably the 11600K is the first time they have officially marketed a product at MSRP, effectively as budget processors as a direct response to the 5000 series processors from AMD. That counts as an official budget crown that is by design, rather than market fluctuations.

This CPU should put a little pressure on AMD to adjust pricing, I likey.

But is it worth the higher price in comparison to the i5-10400f? Would have been nice to have a comparison with it as well.

The new stickers should read "Budget Inside"

Why no 10400 comparison? You refer to the R5 3600 as your "previous budget-conscious number one choice' yet the 10400 has been better performance/value for a while now and far more available. The 10400 is currently very cheap and very good value and a comparison with this would have been very useful, especially with the new B560 chipset removing the memory limitations, something you didn't touch on at all despite the likelihood that most 11400 buyers would be using a B460/B560 board.

AMD is starting to make the same mistakes intel made. Abandoning budget CPUs.

The main thing that matters is if it's going to be in stock.

The 10400 is regularly available for 120 including tax in germany. This has been the real threat for AMD over here
