Elon Musk talks about lithium

Lithium is abundant in the earths surface
Lithium isn't the main component of a lithium ion battery
They call it 'Lithium ion' because lithium is a constant material in each material variation of battery

Podcast University brings the golden nuggets of information and organises them for you to learn and use

So many interesting pieces of information are talked about during a podcast, but they aren't captured, this channel provides all of them, in one convenient place

Lithium is NOT common in the universe.

You do not get lithium from seawater. You use fresh water and seawater to mine the lithium and the surrounding villages have no fresh water for their farms

If lithium is so common, why do they have to ship it from australia to the us?

Hydrogen is most common element. Hydrogen, btw, is what Elon is against because of his Lithium powered Tesla cars. So it makes sense why Elon would lie.

American battery technology company is trading up today, Maybe Musk will do business with them. We should support more American companies in that sector. Look no further than the chip shortage, among others. It's good to have certain robust industries and energy and medical are two vitals to any county, in my opinion.

Lithium is 3rd on the periodic table due to its number of neutrons.
Thats like middle school level shit...genius my ass.

And he said salad bc the last time he was with Joe Rogan he hit a joint and Tesla’s stock dropped but he learned from that mistake… otherwise he would’ve said salt on a steak

I've been saying this to Musk fans for years - he's far too dependent on Lithium (even arrogant about it), when it's so obviously a limiting factor on production. He should be helping to fund research on the next generation of cells, particularly graphene (made of carbon of course, which is a *bit* more common than lithium).

Pay attention ppl who's using the most lithium now a days. And where did he say he gets most of it from? How far is it and who else has it? It's a changing Market.

"lithium is one of the most common elements in the universe"
"Estimates for the Earth's crustal content range from 20 to 70 ppm by weight. Lithium constitutes about 0.002 percent of Earth's crust."
Lithium is a not rare but it is spread out on the earths crust making it hard to mine large quantities at a time.
"This is the Universe we started off with: a Universe that was — by number of nuclei — about 92% hydrogen, 8% helium, and about lithium. By mass, that's about 75-76% hydrogen, 24-25% helium,
The number 3 on the period table is the number of protons.
Remember, this man is a business man selling lithium battery cars, he wants you to think there's unlimited lithium.

Does the UK import lithium?
Imports of British lithium are expected to reach 2.9 million kilograms by 2026, up from 2.4 million kilograms in 2021 - a 3.5% average annual increase since 1998. In 2021, the UK was the seventh-largest importer, with Russia overtaking it with 2.4 million kilograms

Without lithium how else do you make your batteries fundamentally unstable

It is common but extracting it is not easy, accessible lithium on earth is estimatef to be 22 million tons, an ev car may take up to 8 kg of lithium, so with easily accessible reserves we can product 2.8 billion EVs in years to come, we already have 1.4 Billion cars on road in total, so numbers are tight. Mine development takes a few years, most of active mines are in Australia, Chile, China, Argentina, Brazil and Zimbabwe. Chile has brine based extraction which is cost effective to extract, while australia produces hard rock based extract, Tesla gets it from Australia coz their mines produce most of the Lithium. He is also right on can get lithium from seawater, oceans has an estimated 200 Billion Tons (ratio of sodium to lithium in seawater is 60000:1, so extraction is not cheap compared to how it is done now, but in future that is where it may be extracted once there is a breakthrough in extraction).

Most lithium is mined in Australia
Most cobalt is mined in Congo
