Tsk, never seen an MBC555 with colour screen at the museum? I had mine there at the Made in Japan festival weekend back in May 2019. TBF I don't think Dave was at that one. I've finally got used to seeing myself on camera, though I keep thinking 'who's that Geordie bloke' :D Splendid weekend, much fun was had, and thanks to everyone who helped me get my stuff back in the car after my legs decided they didn't like moving too much.

Among many computers of this early eighties era that passed through my hands, I always had a soft spot for the wonderfully named "Intertec Data Systems Super Brain". Now that was a proper computer with proper keys and a proper 80 x 25 phosphor display and two 5.25 floppies and a 25 pin RS232 serial port. I never got it to work quite right - I think it overheated somewhere. I also ran all the accounts for a building firm on a SWTP (South West Technical Products) Micro with dual 8 inch floppies, connected to an external monitor. I wrote a new character set in basic to give it more screen real estate. Tell that to kids today and they won't believe you!

Yes, it took me this long to realise that BBC stands for The British Broadcasting Company Microcomputer . Imagine if Channel 4, or NBC did this, and put computers in all of the schools.
I certainly had a black and white telly for my first computer, which was set up on the dining room table.

I had a Grundy Newbrain in 1992. I loved it; fast, lots of memory and a very sophisticated high res bw graphics capability . Even the gas discharge display was useable. I'm kicking myself that it disappeared decades ago.

THIS is why I clicked the bell icon. So I can be alerted to great content like this. With this and Goldeneye content, you've really been spoiling us lately.

I need to make time to drive down to the museum again. It's been too long...

As always an extremely interesting look into the history of computing. It triggers so many memories ❤

I still have my very first micro computer, a ZX81 with its 16K ram expansion bought with my own money back in 1983. I was 18 back then. I keep it as a reminder of all the many hundreds of hours that I enjoyed learning BASIC and assembly language with it. But, when you become too caught up on what happened in the past, you might miss what's in front of you today.

I've got my original Microprofessor with the LED display plus printer, EPROM programmer etc. Prices on them have rocketed up now.

This is great, I spotted an Apricot XI in the background at one point, another not quite PC compatible, although in some versions it was... Loved the Positron 9000.

Knowledge of the dear old Microbee was a bit iffy but at least you had one there :-)

Good to see such a wide range of systems both familiar and obscure, and the various upgrades to keep using them in the modern world. I recycled my C64 that had been in the loft with a fault since 1995 about 5 yrs ago; now you can get new mainboards for them, at least when their manufacturers can get the chips. One request: please get a better microphone setup for the next video as watching on a VM box through an AV system the pumping of the background noise whenever the speaker paused was uncomfortable.

My god, I haven't seen Tony Duell since I was at university. He's changed over the last three decades.

I really want to watch this, but the inevitable background noise overloads me. (CPTSD)

Is there a solution available?

Guys, get a copy of Isotope RX8 or RX9, fix the audio. Can reduce that background noise when people aren't speaking which is annoying.
