I feel like the light issues could be fixed with overhead lights instead of horizontally facing lights.

i wish you could shoot out the lights. i think that would be a nice feature maybe even a bit tactical

Shadows showing through smoke is really bad and should be fixed, but saying "you can't do anything" vs wall shadows... that's ridiculous lol

others have said this but the lights should seriously just be on the ceiling or something. keep the cool shadow lights for places like projector in office, where it doesnt really give an advantage

The light issue is in a weird spot for me, yeah sure it adds more light to really dark areas but a batman symbol for a shadow is ridiculous for an esport fps game, you should be able to break them or the devs should change them entirely

What are these stock lighting stands copypasted all over anyway? Belong to vertigo, where the map is based on actual construction work going on. Doesn't seem to fit in a place like ancient though.

The lights issue is very simple to fix: just make smokes cast shadows. I hope they don't do some lazy makeshift solution like removing the shadows. I like the new lighting and I think it's only going to raise the skill ceiling, as long as there aren't such inconsistencies like some objects casting shadows and others not.

Also I don't get what is "unfair" about getting a jump on someone because you saw their shadow on the wall. How is it any more "unfair" than, for example, a headshot-level box that enables the player standing behind it to see the entire body of the other player, but the other player can only see their head? It's just a new mechanic that you have to learn how to play to your favor. There are always going to be situations where one player will have the advantage, and the smarter players will figure out how to exploit those situations.

I'm 50/50 with the lights. This feels like one of those core changes that everyone will love and adapt to with time. Everyone hated when mollys were added, but now if you took them out the game would be a lot less balanced and fun. The light position seem easy to get used to and if they were able to be removed mid round with either bullets, smokes, or HEs I feel it would be balanced. There are core issues that clearly need to be fixed like the effects of the smoke vs shadow, model of the light, and some positions, but I feel like they will not remove these entirely. CS2 needs to take some risks to differ from Global Offensive and I believe this could be one of them.

They could just make player shadows player-sided instead of client-sided. That way, nerds that like the shadow detail get to enjoy it but there's no risk of competitive disadvantage for anyone despite of graphic settings.

the lights need to be overhead not on the ground to show wack shadows. or if they tuned shadows down so it wasnt so obvious it would be better but them spot lights are the worst

Imo smokes shadows should also be visible like irl and to fix the aforementioned shadow problem instead of adding these goofy random reflectors which just dont even fit the map they should add multiple smaller lights around like lanterns or something.
