Turkish presidential election heads for runoff as votes counted

While early results appeared to show Turkish voters had decided to stick with Recep Tayyip Erdogan by a comfortable margin, the latest numbers are telling a different story with the possibility of a presidential runoff later this month.

With almost 95 per cent of the ballot boxes counted as of about midnight local time, Erdogan was leading opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu by about four to five points but neither competitor was sitting at the needed 50 per cent to be elected.

I like the idea that, despite the economic crisis, the rampant inflation, and the abysmal response to the earthquake, around 50 million people actually voted for him again. They want another five years of a guy who believes that raising interest rates to combat inflation is the "Work of the devil" and the "Mother and father of all evil", and who has a track record of promoting nepotism and corruption.

What's even funnier is the amount of non-Turkish Muslims, from Pakistan to Indonesia that worship this guy, even in the comments here. Pure Schadenfreude! Keep it up guys!
