In this 3D animated video, we examine the symptoms, treatment, complications, and life expectancy of an aortic aneurysm.

The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. Although your aorta is a tough, durable workhorse, sometimes its walls can weaken and bulge in what is called an aortic aneurysm. This could cause a leak that spills blood into your body. Some aortic aneurysms burst, and some don’t.

If your doctor finds an aneurysm, and it’s small, he might want to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get bigger and become a problem later. If the aneurysm is large, you might need surgery or a stenting procedure to treat it.

My son has an abdominal aorta coarctation at birth, was diagnosed with ascending aortic aneurysm at 27 when he nearly died. The aortic valve was replaced at 27, ascending aorta repaired. At 43 the ascending aorta was replaced and a newer aortic valve from Europe put in. He was not expected to live past 30. He’ll be 50 this year by the grace of God and good surgeons.

My grandpa had a surgery due to having an *8, 87 centimetres* aneurysm in the abdominal aorta.
Doctors were curious as to how he was alive. We found it accidentally and it was built up throughout a span of around 3 years, he never went to check himself to the doctor, he never had any health issue. He found out by luck. And 8, 87 centimeters is huge for an aneurysm

I just learned I have an aortic aneurysm. Doc had me take a CT scan; but, I don't know the results yet. I'm 70 with permanent AFIB and Heart Failure - this new diagnosis is freaking me out a bit.

My grandfather died from an aneurysm in his heart. He was walking down the hospital stairs after being discharged with a diagnosis of a "mild heart attack." They said his heart essentially exploded because the aneurysm was so severe. My mom was 16.

She has an aneurysm in her abdominal aorta. It is being monitored and they don't want to repair it yet. I don't understand why the wait. It makes me worry. I haven't been mapped, but probably should be.
