I had never visited the ancient site of Kerameikos and really enjoyed the experience. The site has good signage and gives you a great sense of Ancient Athens. Then I headed to the Ancient Agora since I enjoy walking through it so much. There are views of the Acropolis from both sites.

Greek columns were named by the type of "capitals" (the bit on top of each capital). The oldest, Doric, has a very simple capital (and, as you mentioned, no base), Ionic, next oldest, has a curly capital, and Corinthian, the newest and favoured by the Romans, looks like leaves shooting up. You can remember oldest to newest by the number of syllables in the name: Dor-ic (2), I-on-ic (3), and Co-rin-thi-an (4)

Lacedaemon is the ancient name for Laconia, and can be synonymous with Sparta which was the main city of Lacedaemon.

Etymology 1: Kerameikos = Κεραμεικός, is an area of Athens, located to the northwest of the Acropolis. It was the potters' quarter of the city, from which the English word
"ceramic" is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous funerary sculptures erected along the road out of the city towards Eleusis.
Etymology 2: Cemetery <---- ancient=modern Greek koimeterion =κοιμητήριον "sleeping place, dormitory, " from koiman "to put to sleep, " keimai "I lie down.
Etymology 3: Lakedemon= Λακεδαίμων : so called the 4. king of the area Lakonia (between the mountains Taygetos - Parnonas + river Eurotas in the middle),
Λακε + δαίμων <---- Λάκκος---> Laco(ITA)--->Lake(ENG) + δαίμων or δάμος =doric form for δήμος=municipality
because of the scary Spartans warriors, later some people call Lakedaimonia as the Lake/Pit of the Demons
Soooo..., some english words have very very very old origin !
