As far as gaming goes, the only reason to ditch Windows 7 or 8.1 for Windows 10 is DirectX 12. If game developers get smart like Doom did last year and use Vulkan instead, you don't need Windows 10 for gaming.

show win7 vs win10 with the intels... this is not Ryzen specific...
Windows 10 just sucks.

Any gains people see in Win7 is likely just the fact that all the windows10 bloatware isn't running in the background.

Pretty much the same story when I tested the 5820k, win 7 edges out some games and win 10 edged out others.

I have been running Windows 8, 1 for a year and also tested Windows 10. But now I am back on Windows 7 and now all processes running take much less CPU than it did in Windows 10 and 8, 1. I had also problems in W10 and 8 very often with difrent processes using 100% CPU of one core all the time, specially windows update used to do this. Same problems on 4 different computers. Never had problems in W7 with processes going crazy all the time using 100% of one CPU core. Overall it seems like Windows 7 is a much better operating system using much less of your resources. This is very noticeable specially on a laptop as you get much less fan noise and better battery life.

The 4 computers I have been using are: 2014 Macbook pro (i7 3, 3Ghz), 11 year old Xeon3060 (identical to Core 2 duo) at 3, 3Ghz, Intel i7 4790k and a Intel Xeon 1231 (identical to i7 but without GPU built in) at 3, 4Ghz. The C2D had 4GB of ram rest had 16GB.

Windows 10 and 8, 1 might sometimes be faster but they use to much resources and have problems with 100% CPU usage of one core. This makes them them horrible on a laptop or small machines...

Would be funny if next AMD recommends downgrading to win7 for optimal gaming performance in addition to buying a 4k monitor, running higher performance mode, disabling SMT, modifying the registry, changing core parking, disabling HPET, overclocking, running faster memory, and buying a new PC with an Intel processor to get the most out of games.

Latest news is now Microsoft is blobking Windows Updates for Ryzen users on every Windows version, except Windows 10. Yet, another dumb move, Microsoft.

I don't mind Windows 10. Im liking some of the gains we'll get on DX 12.

So I can still use my win 7 with any ryzen cpu? what about threadripper? 😊

On older hardware Windows 7 performs better, also on weaker hardware. As the background processes in Windows 10 puts a noticeable impact on those systems but on high end and modern hardware the performance is pretty much the same. But Windows 7 still benefits as it's clean and bloat free on top of that if you use any modern web browser with a solid antivirus security isn't any issue as some people might say, (I use Bitdefender Internet Security).

I'm willing to take a loss in performance if it means having Windows 7 Ultimate on my system (haven't watched the video yet).

I absolutely love your channel. Its amazing how a relatively small channel like yours is always testing hardware and doing testing which other large channels have not done. Maybe they have but I always find myself watching your videos :) That was funny when you said that AMD must have watched your chanel.

to get faster Ram speed on ryzen some people buy the trident z 4000mhz and gives them 3200mhz and seems to give a lot more fps compared to upgrading faster memory on intel. something tells me that the Cache is the problem and its being bottlenecked somehow.

Why Microsoft forcing us to use win10? We all know win7 is the best OS that we can have.

Faster Ram increases performance on Ryzen, so if you can find the compatible RAM that's been tested on your motherboard to run @ 3200 (some higher speed RAM can be down clocked to 3200), then that will dramatically improve performance from 2933MHZ and especially if you're stuck at 2133.
It would appear that the infinity fabrics bandwidth improves with Ram speed (not timings) and thus frees up bottlenecks caused by shitty code in the CCX links faster (that's what's believed at the present time, the performance increases scale with ram speed), single rank RAM appears to be needed for speeds above 2133/2400 though some double rank memory does work at 2667, check your motherboards compatibility list though.

Just a point on Windows scheduler, the FX processors got a scheduler hot fix for windows 7 about 6 weeks after release, so it may take some time for Ryzen to possibly get a similar patch, but it won't be a fix for shitty games optimised for intel.

you should test games on one ccx, you can use affinity in windows or use something like process lasso. set all programs to run on one ccx, and the games to run on the other, I wonder how much faster it will be when latency between l3 cache between ccxs is cut out

Well Microsoft have confirmed that windows updates and driver updates won't be made any more for windows 7 and windows 8/8.1 for users of Sky Lake and Ryzen CPU's. Hereby forcing the use of windows 10...so the video may not be so "relevant" any more in that regard.

The fact that 7 years old Seven is on par with new crapX already speaks for itself.

My question is this...

Have you encountered any options that where disabled when running Ryzen in W7 vs W10?
E.G. SMT, does the ram work properly, can it use all the microcodes etc.
