Marantz Cinema 70 Receiver Review

This review is late. It should have been done for mid-2023. This product is so good that I paired it with basically everything I got to review last year. So I kept pushing the review back. It was the head and heart behind every theater system I had in-house last year: Small bookshelf-based systems, High-end overkill 7.1 systems, Cinema focussed systems.

Everything. This receiver is the best thing I got to use last year.

Your review put me over the edge and I snagged this from Safe and Sound on a black Friday deal. Just picked up a Rotel RMB-1075 today as well to pull the front 3 off of the Cinema and to the Rotel. Cinema will be here in 2 days so I can start to audition. Can't wait!! Keep up the good work.

After watching your review and Andrew’s I get this AVR paired with the focal Dome Flax 5.1, sounds amazing in my room, I still working in the settings, I feel that I can get more from the Marantz.

Btw that 70% Marantz Guarantee is only for up to 5 channels, not all. Which means 50 x 0.7 = 35W per channel for 5 channels driven. Which in turn you can calculate 5 x 35 = 175W total power. And for all channels driven, in this case seven, 175 / 7 = 25W for all channels driven at 8 ohms 20 Hz - 20 kHz and 0.05% distortion (THD). Which is not bad compared to others. But yeah the bs and lying is strong with these AV companies.

The Yamaha V6A for example which is 100W Stereo 20Hz-20kHz at 8Ω 0.06% THD. I calculated that it's about 28.5W All Channels Driven.

Mine is delivering tomorrow. Got a great deal. It is going in my bedroom because it is not enough channels for the Home Theater. I might try it before I put it in the bedroom. It will be interesting to see how it compares to my AV7705 in 7.1

If I want to use as is, do you think it will pair up well with efficient Klipsch speaker package? Say the Reference Premiere 600 and 500 Mk2s with matching sub?

Great channel ! Big question currently have the Onkyo rz50 all hooked up, Running all Klipsch 800 F/ 504c/ 500m/ 500sa/ Svs 200pro with Emotive Basx3, had the 70s hooked up and loved it but it shut down on me and had to return. Check all my speakers connections and I spliced different gauges together for my rear heights, so I think that was the culprit, have a Denon 3800 sitting new in the box but I want to give this another try, I was considering the cinema 60 but kinda pricey. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. You just got a new sub, 👍🏻😎👍🏻✌️😎✌️ Running a 5.1.2

Big fan of mine also. It's easily driving 5 B&W speakers (somewhat vintage) that are known to be current hungry and this little thing has no problem making the house rock. Though, I'm adding two small monoblocks - the new Fosi V3 Monos for a mere $100-ish per channel - to drive the main stereo pair - just because I can, not because I must. Offloading the main stereo pair leaving the rest of the amplification to drive surrounds seems like a plan, especially as I'm doing 5.2.2. Literally the only thing I wish it had was two more pre-outs - for one more Atmos pair, so I could do front and rear heights. I guess Marantz didn't want to cannibalize sales of their higher end models... Front heights is great, though.

I am too much confused between home theatre (HT) amplifiers and stereo amplifiers (SA).
Do listening to music on SA will far far better as compared to that on HT (Considering both are of similar price brackets) ?

Does this unit play album art on the tv through hdmi earc and the sound coming from the amp for example through Spotify connect but album art on the tv? Everyone says the tv will downsample if you use the tv apps to stream. Do you notice that?

If I use a 2 channel external amp for L and R can the remaining amps be bridged to increase the power for the center and rears?

I did not find 2ch music enjoyable with the Marantz Cinema 70 so added a Stereo Amp with AV Bypass to the Marantz Cinema 70's Front L&R Pre-outs, then just plug in music sources to the Stereo Amp, which is much more rewarding separate 2ch music playback

Man, this thing looks pretty good for the money... thinking about pairing this with an Outlaw amp for Totem Forest's, Signature One's, a Signature Center, and a Signature Sub.... what do you think?

For the same piece, better this or x2800h? I don't have a particularly large environment and I thought I'd combine this system with ELAC or TRINGLE speakers (3.1 solution). Thank you
