Played my first game of Twilight Imperium yesterday. What an absolutely amazing game.
Altough I was beaten up to an inch of my life I managed to hold Earth with my Spec Ops II and eke out a victory!

Sol means sun in many languages, so we are the race from the system of Sol. Now the planet, where our race hails from, is called Jord which is earth in all the scandinavian languages (sharing the same germanic root as the word for earth in other languages: earth - english; Erde - german; etc)

I was in a game and watched Sol demolish two other players at the same time. Those troops are devastating. I was the space cats and while that war was going on I quietly won.

I know I'm 4 years late, but i looked up Jord. It's the personification of earth and a goddess in norse mythology. It's also pronounced Yord.

It is called jord beacus Christian the designer is danish.
Jord is earth in danish.
And sol is sun.

At 2:28 you are asking why the planet is called Jord. This is swedish and means "earth".

I won my first game of Twilight Imperium last night combining Spec Ops 2 with the Transit Diodes tech. So while everyone else was playing Star Wars I was playing Stargate SG1.
