My friend just overdosed after a decade long fight against heroin. The last band he recommended to me was Toh Kay. He was such a kind soul and that was represented in the music he loved. I hope he finds the peace he had yearned for. Man, I wish you didn't relapse.

After two and a half years being with my girlfriend, she left me. I got home from work and her stuff was gone, looked like I got robbed. She took the orphan kitten we raised together. That day I listened to this song for hours with beers in my hands, and oddly enough it comforted me but made me feel so sad...

Dear god, I always love the more emotional or emotionally difficult songs written by Streetlight manifesto, but damn does Toh Kay really nail all they are trying to convey with this song.

Did I mention he was dreaming
When the Devil came to town
I was awoken by the screaming
But nobody heard a sound
And the lies we tell at breakfast
Won’t match the lies we share for lunch
And the lies we serve for dinner, they’re the tallest of the bunch, yeah

Did I mention he was cold
When he finally lost control, of the ghost
And the epilogue I dreaded
Now seems likely to console
And I’m still not understanding
The things he did before he left
But the one thing that will haunt me
Is right before his final breath, when he said...

“Oh they broke me down
Yeah they broke me down
So I can’t be your saint you see
‘Cause I won’t be hangin ‘round”
And they broke him down
Yeah they broke him down
So I stood there and I held my breath
‘Cause I knew that it wouldn’t be long till they broke me down

And no one holds a grudge dear like I do
I see it through
And you may not remember
It was nothing much at the time, but I kept it bottled inside

Oh, and we all know how that goes
I’ve given up on letting go
So here we are
With nothing left dear
And now you’ve left here
And I was last to know

Holy smokes
Some say he’d given up the ghost but he wouldn’t do that
I think he’s hiding in the background
Of his favorite photographs
And he’s living as a beggar
Or maybe a millionaire
But the one thing that I’m sure of
Is he felt some comfort there
That’s fair, because they broke him down

Oh they broke him down
So he can’t be my saint no more
He won’t be hanging around
Oh no....

And they broke him down, yeah they broke him down
He said, “I can’t be your saint no more, ‘cause I won’t be hanging around”
And they broke him down
Yeah they broke him down
So I stood there and I held my breath
‘Cause I knew that it wouldn’t be long before they broke me down

I was born in Jax fl, saw them first their on their first tour(streetlight), my mom is from Paris France where I still have family. Streetlight is my favorite live band and it pains me they were robbed on their first tour in both cities, which lead to the "please stop robbing us" tour...which I also saw. Love the way Toh Kay released an acoustic version of the last contract album with streetlights label available for free as a fuck you to the label. Great lyrics, amazing musicians, great attitudes, and intelligent retaliation=rolemodels for life

This song makes me think of my father. I don't care what anyone says. I picked the right parent to live with. I hold all my memories of him, the good and the horribly bad, deep in my heart. Miss you so, so much, dad. If I knew I was going to miss you even a fraction as badly as I do now, I'd have spent more time with you. I hope you found peace in death, and I forgive you. Goodbye.

Stevie, if you see this, I'm coming looking for you man. I don't know if I'll find you, but I'm gonna look, because no one else understood.

The best Toh Kay cover off "The Hands That Thieve", in my opinion.

This song sounds like what losing a loved one feels like, which I'm assuming was the point, it's perfect

Knowing Nirvana's influence on Tomas, I like to think this song is written for Kurt
