Same thing happened to me and after I finally relented, they helped me in completing so many of my world quests. He stuck with me for months and even in quests where it didn’t allow for co-ops, he gave me pointers and literally walked me through some of them.
We added each other but a few months after doing some random quests with each other, he stopped playing after he told me he was going through some things at home. About 4 months later, his account showed that he was online and I immediately messaged him. However, it was his older brother who answered me. He told me his younger brother who I played with for more than 1/2 a year had taken his own life. We exchanged social media and he sent me a FB link of a post their mom made commemorating him. I just sat their bawling my eyes out and even now when I think of it, i get teary eyed.

Kind of a downer towards the end their but this reminded me of him.😅
