This was my first heavy war game. I have played this solo multiple times. Throughly enjoy it. Would recomend it to anyone looking for a proper wargame entry level and beyond.

One of our favorite games. We replay this at least once a year.

Nice review guys as always. Selling my third ed and ordered 4th ed w/ mount map with errata and map corrections. 40x series are classics. If you play this again, try the Rommel variant where he convinces the big boss to move the PZ's closer to the beach. Very fun alternative gives the Germans opportunities to counter attack sooner and with more punch. PS I too heard from a source at GMT that Ukraine '43 is being updated.😁

The first video I watched of your guys was Holland 44, and your recommendation led me to buy both that game and this game. So this is a nice full circle for me. Glad you guys finally got back around to this.

Sorry for the long comment but two (unrelated) things:
1) I agree that this isn't a "retake the beach" game but the "strongpoints" can be a huge thorn in the side for the Allied player if used as more than speed bumps. If the German player can get a good unit or two to stack with the strongpoint, the strongpoint prevents the tank shift, gives a DRM on determined defense, and +2 DRM on isolation/attrition. While that may not take the beach, a good unit stacked in a strongpoint can force attention that is needed elsewhere to ensure that the good unit embedded in the strongpoint doesn't run out to mess with the beach.
2) I feel confident that you guys would love Ukraine '43. It goes from stagnant lines to races across open plains and back to new defense lines. And the chrome is fun. Each side has a leader that allows one re-roll per turn but the leader is a marker on the board and only has a 7 hex radius and has a movement allowance like a regular unit so it can't just fly around the map. The Germans have tiger tanks which always give the tank shift. But the Russians have Tank and Shock Armies that allow for extra stacking. So there are these elite stacks on both sides that need to be watched at all times. One of my favorite games.

This has caused me to pull out and clip this game and get it ready for play. I love the 4X series. Thank you once again for a wonderful video that has inspired me to get to a game that sits on my shelf of shame.

Thank you Both, AGAIN! Grant you make me laugh so much with the failing counter-attacks and the comment on the push back of the allies from the beaches! Easy, is it not?😂
Great game and your comments proved again that this one is a must wrt. Normandy theater.

GMT will charge and ship the P500 new printing—and a mounted map option—very soon!

There are in fact strict limitations on the garrison of Fortress Cherbourg - the black box around their movement factors is a reminder that they cannot exit the perimeter until 'released' by the proximity of Allied units.

Nice video! What are these red transparent markers what you guys are using on the map? (what's the name or where can I buy these)
