Got to just love those easy fixes. Here is a great example. But don't let it get this bad before doing something about it.

I've never actually seen the bolts come loose like that but noisy check straps are super annoying, that's for sure.
Good tip Kent. Like my old boss used to say all the time..."always try the easy way first".

I was excited to try this. One bolt was a little loose but tightening didn’t fix it. Pulled off the door panel and found a third bolt that was loose. Still didn’t fix it. Completely removed the door stop and found that the ears that the outer bolts attached to were sheared off. No wonder it was clunking. The door stop was an aftermarket replacement that was done less than 5 years ago. Unfortunately there is a $200 price difference between genuine MBZ and the aftermarket part so this may become a regular part of maintenance. Thanks for the video. It gave me the incentive to get it fixed.

I have the exact same problem with my not quite so old CLS from 2006. The noise it makes isn't as bad as shown in your video, but it definitely cracks and isn't as smooth as the passenger door. I'll check the bolts tomorrow. Thanks for this video and all your other very helpful videos! Really appreciate it!

Great advice, on my R129, the bolt behind the door panel was loose causing a clanking noise when the car was driven over bumps, I did the same as you did in this video 👍😎👌

Tried it on my 1992 500SL. The bolts were able to tighten by hand that’s how loose they were. Tightened it with a socket wrench. And now no noise 👍🏻

love these videos so glad I found this Channel. 04 CLK320 owner here, any ideas or videos on sunroof only retracting half way? Tried greasing tracks, seems to be an issue with the fuzzy cables..

I’ve always equated old Mercedes Benz models to farm houses. Usually there is some level of neglect or attention needed. It’s a matter of buying one that was “cared for” properly prior to acquiring it, and making sure to keep ahead of the aging process. I’m currently playing with an R129, maybe I should consider my own advice next time.

I've had this very problem on a 2014 Vauxhall/Opel Astra. Always pays to try the simple stuff first.

Thanks Kent! This is super common indeed.

porsche 924's have a similar design and simply tightening isn't the only solution. I think its best to grease or lightly lubricate the stopper at the piece in the door as well. You're right though, if left unchecked, they will snap, and it could even tear up the door itself at the mounting points. Ask me how I know ;).

My 380SL driver's door "pops" three times when opening and closing the door. Any suggestions for this?
