This video is further clarification on how I found a level surface to calibrate the precision level.

You can also use a 123 block and a machinist jack to make a test stand. Put one end of the level on the block and raise and lower the other end with the jack until it reads the same when you swap ends.

I’ve read the checking surface does not need to be close to level, it only needs to be repeatable when the level is rotated 180 degrees when placed in the same spot. Levels are self checking which is a beautiful thing.

Nice job Steve, I guess I missed part 1. Lots of different ways one can do this but I have even took a known flat plat on any old table ( making sure table is solid ) and use note pad paper to shim  plate to level.  That's one thing about a level, if the bubble centers when you turn it 180 its level.   Thanks for sharing. Off to check out part 1.     Gary

Great video Steve. Got two levels to check/calibrate.

Looks like a Atlas from Kalamazoo in the back ground, good job on the video, Wait to see more videos you have, maybe on a DRO and usage, set up and using the SDM. Thanks so much Steve

Here's what I experienced: the bubble was off so I swapped end to end and the bubble was off by same amount, it followed the "uphill" side of level just like you showed. However, after I then adjusted the nuts so the bubble was centered, I checked it by swapping it end to end again and it was way off! Why?

I am really confused about how to calibrate spirit level. I own 6 quantum with precision of 0, 02mm/m. When I put those level on a flat surface (I use a glass with 10mm thick) in one position the bulb is on the left and when is rotated of 180 ° the bulb is in the same position, left side. What does it means? In theory we need to have the vias, paralel whit the foot ot the level, right? If so, if i adjust a little to center the bulb, when rotate the bulb is not centered but go to one of the side. The adjut system is very tricky and put me nervous. Could someone help me to understand how to proceed? Thanks in advance

You are lucky you got a question that was sort of easy to answer. Usually I get questions on a video that is two or three years old and I have no real idea what the heck it was about much less the answer to the question. Then I have to go back and watch the video to hopefully figure it out. 🤔

Thank you for your video. I have a question. I just bought a new precision level and I can't seem to calibrate it. I am on a flat surface checked with 3 other high quality levels. When I get the bubble to the centre of the level then rotate it 180 to check it the bubble goes all the way to the side. What am I doing wrong?

What if you don't have a "known level" surface, but have a flat surface. Can you make the level the same line off-center when you flip it on either side? Example 1 line to the left then rotate the level and have it in the new 1 line on the left? That is if 1 line to the left is the same spot when you turn the level around.

You want the bubble vial to be parallel with
the bottom of the level correct?
I’m thinking Inwould use an indicator and
check each end for any difference.

So, use a 4" torpedo level with a .250 accuracy to verify a macinist level with a .005 accuracy 😂 keep to wood working dad!
