Unacceptable.  This is exactly what shouldn't happen when buying a riser at this price point.

As a qualified welder I would say there was a defect in the metal, something that happens even with the best quality control, unfortunately this problem could effect a number of risers.
I dare to say you will have no issue's with Lancaster Archery but good luck with Hoyt.. ... ..

I'm sorry to hear about your bow. I still have a PM6 and TD3 that work great. Hoyt is too smart to allow you to have troubles and not bend over backwards to make it right. My guess is that they will send you a higher quality riser to keep you happy !
In fact, if they might even replace both of them, seeing as how that's your back up :)
God bless Lancaster Archery !!

it was probably a small bubble that was created during the casting of the original aluminum block, it just crack under the stress

So sorry for your riser, but that’s why I chose the MK SD and Mach X Formula over the Hoyt XD and Formula Axia as an upgrade over my previous Wiawis Winex and Samick Extreme C

Good luck with Hoyt. Their reputations as great BoW manufacturers has lost its edge. Time to move on. Other bow companies passed Hoyt years ago. My Hoyt buffalos finish is terrible and it's a pain to tune. No more Hoyt bows for me. If you want to compete at very high levels you won't do it with Hoyt.

I have a WNS Motive 23" ILF Riser, which I purchased from Lancaster Archery, for $269.00, and it's a very strong Riser, due to the forged Aluminum. I currently have a pair of Long Length 50 LB. OMP Reaper ILF Limbs installed on it, and it performs great. It may not be as high end as your Hoyt GMX, but, I have no concerns, about it ever failing!

Shore Shot, When all is said and done you didn't get hurt. I know that doesn't help with the problem but there is not much you can do but sit and wait. Good luck. Alan

Our daughter started archery last year, ofc, she wanted something that looked like a certain bow that was in a certain film, ofc the Hoyt buffalo was the bow used in that certain film. We brought her something a little cheaper on the Hoyt range, as well with ILS fittings so we could change her draw weight or length as she grew, and also developed. A year on we I mean my partner and myself took archery up. Ironically we both went with WIN and WIN, myself the full rcx-100 system and my partner a rapido with 3rd party limbs. The reason why we brought those were due to our daughters Hoyt. how it lacked a lot of finesse to the and even worse is that we are now looking at buying our daughter a new bow as her Hoyt that is towards the lower price end cannot even support a clicker, which in target Recurve archery is gob smacking. As for the failure, I would say it 's a material fatigue, and there fore a possible bad batch of ingot's that were supplied for being tooled. It's the only possibility for it to break there.

My wife and I love our Gmx's. That would make us so sad especially now they don't make them anymore.

Perhaps part of the quality control should be an X Ray?

Ive heard in recent years that Hoyt has had quality control issues. There have been risers that left their factory misaligned and twisted. Also heard some of the new X-tour limbs have been flying out of risers. Could be that your GMX was milled out of inferior aluminum.

Why I went with a Gillo... those things are pretty heavy/solid.

some risers are not build to take higher poundage. like powerful limbs, this will cause the riser ti break. specially if it is a machine riser, Forge Riser are better. they can handle more powerful limbs
thats what i heard from a cheers
