The Philosophy of Red Green - Gruul | Definitive Color Pie Study

Показать описание
The philosophy of Gruul is one based on the impulses and instincts which guide us. It is a set of colors on the color pie who are confident in who they are because they head the call of the primal forces. In Magic: the gathering we rarely get to see any other side of red green than the destructive one, but there is beauty in the color philosophy of the mtg colors. In the definitive duality series we will take the time to understand the core of its beliefs.

Do you think Gruul has the right idea, when it comes to how we should live our life, or is it missing the point entirely?

Even when divorced from the idea of living out in the wild, Gruul speaks of true authenticity, of not only being at peace with who and what you are, but celebrating it.

In a world that constantly tells you that you're lacking, that your ideal self is always in the horizon, it's a welcome and cathartic relief to hear: "You're not just good enough. You're already everything you need to be."

Gallia is my favourite MTG card ever!

I have several decks with her, including a Satyr-themed Commander. No matter, I win or loose, seeing her on the board makes me happy!

Out of all the Guilds, I am Gruul. There is no doubt in my Heart and Gut (Which is what guides my path). I hate the world man has made. These social rules, societal expectations, laws, structures and Even comforts that hold me back and make life more complex and what it needs to be. I hate how it can make me feel weak at times. I also think man doesn't realize civilization is just following nature in a twisted way they don't even realize it. We are all animals deep within. I am most happy though being Free and away from the Internet, away from people and out in nature where I am self reliant. Nothing beats this feeling looking at the stars at night around a fire with good food, drink and good company who appreciate it with you. I also love going to old buildings people have forgotten about and seeing how nature reclaims what is hers. It's beautiful. I admire the strength of beasts and the fortitude of nature and i grow this within myself. One day, I'll give up everything in this world of man after I'm done with it and live off nothing but myself. I will die like this and return this vessel back to mother earth hopefully in a condition to let her know I appreciated what she gave me.

If this doesn't make me Gruul, I don't know what does lol

The Ravnica block was my first true foray into MtG. Gruul has always held a special place in my heart.

I already know the philosophy of Red Green: "If the women don't find you handsome, they can at least find you handy."

I’m not a MTG fan, but the Bloomburrow set somehow got on my radar and the artwork completely charmed me. I’ve been reading a bit about Magic since then and the color pie interested me- it’s always fun to read about personality types and think about how you & your loved ones fit into them. So I took the color alignment quiz after reading about each color and got exactly what I thought I would: Red/Green. I don’t 100% align with this explanation of “Gruul”, but I highly value authenticity, love, and nature and absolutely get disturbed by the complexities of the modern world, lol. Nice video!

You always pick the right color combo at the right time for the character i'm playing in my campaign. It was Naya two years ago. Izzet last year. Now Gruul.

Great video like always! While I don’t identify with Gruul, I am quite a fan. Being Gruul seems almost as relaxing and freeing as being Rakdos. But alas, red mana definitely is not my fate… 😅

Beautiful and well rounded video, you hit the nail on the head again with the choice of artwork and music

From being aligned with the Izzet colors as a teenager, I think I grew into a more Temur-shaped mind if not totally Gruul. I can see in myself some blue aspects but I know now green is more prevalent than blue.

After watching this, and rewatching your Naya video- I think that the quiz was wrong to remove white from my identity. I mean, I relate to a very heavy amount to the feelings this video portrays (which is why I do believe Gruul is the highest part of my identity), but white plays a very heavy role in my beliefs and actions. Very good video though- great timing to help me figure out how I feel about my last color pie quiz result.

Great video Dice! This is a perfect reflection of this philosophy, and I couldn't imagine doing any better with it. Thank you so much for the work you do, bringing us your thoughts and discoveries into the color pie and all it entails!

Even though I prefer Rakdos and Izzet, the deck I've been playing recently is Chishiro with a heavy counter focus. And so far, I've been extremely satisfied. The deck builds up very quickly.

My my, this video was such a positive surprise - I came here expecting comparisons with the iconoclasts of the Catholic Church Reformation or perhaps the Celtic warrior still furiously charging full force at their enemies centuries after the Romans introduced the shield wall as the superior battle tactic.

Instead, the Gruul narrative here aligns way more with my most spiritual peers ('as they comprehend they're an integral part of a larger cosmic dance" - sounds just like Alan Watts), or - better even - all of my friends who either talk about, or effectively moved to an eco-village and are now exploring new life themes life harvesting their own food.

This is such a sweet view on Gruul - and one that I deeply appreciate. This whole video made me think of how different the Magic the Gathering universe could be if only the main game was not about violence. What if Magic was a game about building magic societies? What if it was about making magic art? I think we'd see the beauty of Gruul quite often - rather than its rage.

Amazing video as always :)

This was a nice video! I defintley understand where Gruul is coming from, but I feel it is too oblivious to vatious possibilites! Both in terms of community and groups, as well as that of ambitous growth! I also want to that Fangbone from the show uh... Fangbone, is a great example of a Red/Green Hero. I enjoyed this video a lot.

Something I'm interested in is seeing what each color and color combination looks like as a villain. We all know what the variations of black look like, but what makes a Green White character evil or what leads a White Blue Red villain to make the actions they do?
