Take it from someone that's painted a lot of cars, I would use a good high build primer or you will see every imperfection on black, also don't use nason clear or you will have to buff it every time you wash it, on that car I would buy a gallon of nason base from eBay with reducer and hardner, then use a gallon of chroma-clear for clear coat

You are very talented and honest and thorough with your approach ! . The ‘kid’ nickname is unnerving but .. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Tip for painting in your garage: to reduce dust etc. use a watering can to just lightly coat the floor with water. Any dust present will not touch the paint.

Would be cool to do a livestream repair for a change

Very cool man. I have no bodywork experience but went really slow and spent a couple months fixing up an old Miata. Had to redo the sanding/filler steps a couple times but eventually got it correct. When the paint went down it almost looked like a decent collision shop job, except the dry spray I have to fix. You just gotta do it and screw it up a couple times to learn.

Love it when a mechanic tries to do the body work, prep, and paint Hahaha.. like your videos very informative but your collision skill no comment couple things you did wrong but you got the right idea..

No putty, use the filler epoxy primer, 2-3 localized coates, sanding between coats will fill all scratches perfectly.

Just a tip on feeling the flaws, put a baggie over your hand, turn your hand palm side up and drag your fingernails across the surface. It magnifies the touch. Works great when compounding and waxing a car as well.
Thanks for the Video

I'm not a body man, just someone with experience with finishes.

I once prepped a 1976 Dodge "Shaggin' Wagon" van for paint. Black.

Auto paint surface prep is unforgiving, black is worst of all. Lesson I learned: never cut corners.

You should have put a blanket or something that has electrostatic on the engine baie. Been there done that (without the blanket i mean) and man, it was a nightmare to clean all the sanding dust from all the little spots under the hood. I had to use a pressure washer to get a good result and it was on a pretty simple car with no electronics. I am not sur i want to pressure wash a bmw engine bay.

Why not save some time and just rattle can the primer since the primer is going over pained surfaces?
