She still allowed her to explain and tbh in the show these girls have a habit of making certain remarks and certain jokes and in the 90s ED jokes were rampant especially with the super skinny body ideal, i love daria and jane cuz their jokes arent at the people who do self destructive things to fit appearances as much as its on why they do so while they do the same just different by judging people who do w/o thinking about why. The jokes are layered and everytime mean thing they say to a certain type of girl its to protect themselves too from the world telling them theyre wrong for not fitting in and also the bullying theyd faced for not fitting in and this is one of the times where they genuinely meant it instead of being snarky. They genuinely cared. I think teacher's working off of context clues here. Its one of my comfort shows and i love the nuance they give their characters. They all have a point and come from a certain place even of theyre the "antagonist" in the scene like here. Theres always nuances to this and to ignore it is not the way to watch daria or analyse things.

I honestly thought this was from a revival of the show because that’s surprisingly sympathetic to people with EDs for the time period. Society was extremely unkind to people going through that.
