China’s “artificial sun” fusion reactor sets a new record

China’s “artificial sun” set a new record after it ran at 120 million degrees Celsius for 101 seconds, according to state media. The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) device designed by China replicates the nuclear fusion process carried out by the sun . For 20 seconds, EAST also achieved a peak temperature of 160 million degrees Celsius which is over ten times hotter than the sun. The experiment was conducted at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP), in Hefei. The ultimate goal of EAST is to create nuclear fusion like the Sun, using deuterium abound in the sea. Deuterium from one-litre of seawater can produce energy equivalent to 300 liters of gasoline, through a nuclear fusion reaction. For nuclear fusion to occur, tremendous heat and pressure are applied to hydrogen atoms so that they fuse together and unlike fission, Nuclear fusion is considered a safer process with no nuclear waste. Nuclear fusion could potentially provide unlimited clean energy and very low costs. China’s EAST project is part of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) facility which will become the world’s largest nuclear fusion reactor after it becomes operational in 2035. Several countries are a part of this project, including South Korea, Japan, Russia, India, and the United States. The next goal for the EAST project is to maintain the high temperature for a long period of time.

This is nowhere near as hot my PC gets from running task manager, it goes 500 billion degrees Celsius for 10 minutes

The power of the sun in the palm of my hand

My biggest question is what kind of device do they use to hold that much heat? Because if it's hotter than the sun, it should have melted anything that comes into contact with it like the air, the metal that's surrounds it, ECT.

I think I need to see the documentary about this project.

China is developing fusion reactor, meanwhile America is fighting with each other over a man with orange hair.

I like how the music and the text make it seem like it's okay to be doing what they are doing. As if their isn't an agenda for the point of it. As if it's just science.

And yet we told to fear global warming and there pulling shit like this 🤣

Ok but lets be real, the first country to get a working, sustainable fusion reactor will take over the world... They can literally power anything with it, Imagine a literal laser blaster that can explode anything

There no clean water to drink and people are dieing of thirst
LETS MAKE ANOTHER SUN 😎 🙅🏽‍♂️

Citations please, because ocean water has like .01% of deuterium in it, and it does specify if it was deuterium-deuterium or deuterium-tritium reaction.

The best thing about the Fusion reactor is that if it fails It can never explode or implode or damage anything the Plasma just disappears.

160 million degrees ? Nothing could possibly go wrong LOL, LOL.

what if they removed magnetic field used to hold it while it’s hot? would it just melt thru the ground like 10 ft?

Can this be true? At those temperatures, all things will not only melt but even get evaporated, no?

I love how everyone's just okay with this.

Please don't distroy nature humans it is already enough and we have one planet

For fusion to occur, does the temperature have to be that high?

How can you claim to have something as hot as the sun on earth.if the sun is 5000 degrees Fahrenheit and can heat up the earth the closer it gets and burn it, how can you have something 158million degrees Fahrenheit on earth just curious

Can anyone explain how they keep the enormous heat in one place? Like surely it would just melt trough about everything no?

I have a question about heat of that magnitude and what it does to moisture? The moisture in the air, heat of that magnitude created outside of our atmosphere frankly is why we have an atmosphere, if you create that much heat within the atmosphere, I am not a scientist but it doesn’t sound smart.
