Tokyo’s Cherry Blossoms are here - Sakura Rain Out!

They’re here but so is winter again! Cold and wet, the highs and lows of this time of year. Let’s check out a popular spot today.

I do not know how often you find yourself near Sensō-ji in Asakusa, but on the left side of the Kaminari Mon gate there is a place called Kamakura Sweets, which is near the Not Suspicious Bar. They have a Sakura Latte that was soo good that I had to make a 2nd trip with some of the people of my trip group to have again before we left Japan. Not saying you should make video or stream it, but as someone that rarely gives recommendations, I am saying that I recommend the trip for one.

My new friend and I are having withdrawals that we had nothing as good as that drink during our trip.

I was out this morning as I knew people would stay home. It was great having the blooms to myself. With some trees, it's hard to tell if the blossoms are on their way in or on their way out. Good to know they're not fully bloomed. I was worried the rain washed them away!

The same issue exists in Finland, especially with degrees in fields like social studies or humanities. Many PhDs have little to no practical experience, and their only career path is academia, which often feels detached from the real world. As a result, some of them end up making decisions for everyone else to justify government funding, leading to impractical choices—like designing open-air classrooms for elementary school kids without considering real-world challenges.

Imagine 70+ students trying to study in an open-air setup, constantly interrupting each other. It’s just chaos. When too many people have PhDs, especially when they’re pursued just for the sake of having one, it loses its value. And honestly, many of them seem useless and unemployable because there are too many positions created for pointless fields. What can you really do with a PhD in haiku poetry?

It feels like PhDs are often for people who just want to stay students forever, getting paid to study without ever having to enter the workforce.(they are paid for x years minimum wage salary to do it)
