Tennis Forehand Wrist Lag Trick - How To Do It Like The Pros
What exactly is racket lag and how can it help you create extra power and control on your forehand?

Prior to contact, the racket head will lag behind the grip and hand, as we can see here with many of the best ATP and WTA pros.
This lag phase creates leverage or force over the oncoming ball. Think about a hammer hitting a nail. Our racket is the hammer, and the ball is the nail.
Reaching this position, in a relaxed way, will help you create extra control and power on your forehand.
So now that we know the importance of this phase of the forehand, it’s time to get out on the court to see exactly how to create racket lag in an effortless way, using one special trick.

Wrist Lag - How To Do It Like The Pros
At the start of the forehand swing, try to have your racket head higher than the grip and your wrist laid back slightly. This position of the arm is called wrist extension, and by creating this position right from the start of the swing, you’ll set yourself up very well for creating wrist lag later on in the forehand swing.

We can see many ATP and WTA pros using this exact technique on their forehands.
The proof is in the pudding.
If this wasn’t an effective way to hit a tennis forehand, these pros wouldn’t be using this technique.

Very insightful illustration. I have 2 questions though. The racquet drop after the power position is reached. Can you elaborate on that in a future video? I have trouble understanding what should the body and arm be doing to achieve the proper racquet drop, how much should we be trying to control it or should we just let gravity take over? Also if you could also cover what to do at contact and beyond. I have this feeling of loss of racquet face control at that stage of the swing. How actively should the hand be controlling everything?

thanks for the tips! There are several examples of racket lag occurring with the hand being above the wrist though.

Please do a video on relearning the forehand to change to a straight arm. I just cant seem to ditch the bent elbow. It looks bad and I have a feeling straight elbow yeilds higher power returns.

Hello Simon, I just wanted to ask about my forehand - when I hit my forehand the ball goes out of the court, I don’t know what’s causing this whether it’s my swing or my footwork, I hope you can provide me with some tips to stop getting the ball out of the court when hitting, however still providing power and control on my forehand .

Can you please make a video on how much topspin shots we should use in our game. I play 100% topspin with my forehand but my coach and other club players are asking me to use flat instead of topspin. Am I wrong using topspin all the time??
P.S. I feel comfortable playing topspin all the time

About bounce-hit technic, how far we have to stand from the bourne ?

Outside of Djokovic, I think I notice that everyone grips their racquet handle VERY low... so the lower 1/3 of the palm isn't really even touching the racquet. Am I just seeing things?

Can you comment on the players keeping their nonracket hand on the throat of the racket as long as possible.

Stan didn't look the ball into the racket either. Robeiro did though. Tell me guys is that a myth or personal tendency to watch the ball thru the complete shot or watch it well enough to approximate it's contact point.

Look how Nadal didn't particularly watch the ball off his racket and Roger watched all the way in.
