Poor Pup Becomes A Walking Skeleton After Weeks Of Being Forgotten

Murray should have never turned into the walking skeleton you see in these pictures. For weeks he was left starving to death after his owner passed away, leaving him and 5 others forgotten.

A couple of days ago our local shelter brought in 6 dogs that were found in a home after their owner was found deceased. Sadly, the owner had died weeks ago and no one knew. Within these weeks that they were left to themselves, all 6 dogs dwindled down to nothing but skin and bones. After hearing about this, the rescue community came together and brought all dogs to safety. What makes this all the more heartbreaking is that yesterday, we learned that the owner used to be involved in a local rescue and several of us knew him.

Given the trauma this baby has faced, we knew he deserved the best possible care so we picked him up and took him to our veterinarian for medical care. Given the weeks without care, the poor thing weighs a mere 27lbs and has severe muscle atrophy. Because of this, Murray could not walk and had to be carried out of the shelter and into the clinic with a blanket used as a hammock.

As of now, he has been given prescribed ID dry food and canned food for at least the next two weeks, along with a high-calorie nutritional supplement. Murray will also be given prescription joint supplements. He will also be receiving bloodwork and will be sedated for X-rays as soon as he gains enough weight to tolerate the sedation.
