Lokix is the BEST early-route Bug Type Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet FINALLY gave us an early route bug that is strong in the competitive scene. Closest we had was the inconsistent Vivillon and the mega restricting Beedrill.

I find it really cool how SV got two kinds of superhero in the same game. Palafin as a western style comic book super hero, complete with a secret identity changeover, and Lokix, being a more Japanese style masked superhero.

Lokix really is one of those "Quintessential Pokemon" that just has a perfectly balanced design, and regardless of viability just makes you want to fit it on your team somehow.

Yes! This bug became my new favorite pokemon the second I saw it. Here's a run down of all the Kamen Rider refrences it has (that I've found)

Visually, it's base color is reminiscent of Kamen Rider Black/Black Sun and it's shiny, while being similar to a gold, I say is closer to Zero-One. On top of that, typically Kamen Riders have a bug motif to them, with the original Kamen Rider 1 having a grasshopper helmet. The pattern on it's waist is similar to the belt based "Drivers" that Kamen Riders use to transform into their superhero form. The legs on its back folding out into "a showdown mode that grants great power but puts a toll on the user" is similar to other power ups throughout the history of riders such as Build's Black Hazard, Drive's type Dead Heat, Revi's Volcano Rex, or Ex-Aid's excessively named Hunter Action Gamer Level 5 Full Dragon that give the rider great power at the cost of an excessive drawback until mastered. Despite Kamen Rider being a symbol of justice, Lokix has a point in having the Dark type: every series the Rider gets their powers in some form originating from the main evil, using their power against them. And in Japan, the original name of the Dark type was the "Evil" type, which this whole type interaction of bug being super effective against Dark/Evil might be purely because of Kamen Rider

And then Axe Kick. The classic finisher for a villian of the week is the Rider Kick, typically a flying jump kick that may have some kind of flair depending Rider to Rider. Interestingly Lokix doesn't actually learn High Jump Kick and they gave a stronger variation to Lokix (and Hitmonlee, Medication, and Hisuian Lilligant), and in peak fashion, the Kick is the finisher being the last move on Lokix's level up moveset.

FYI Kamen Rider and Super Sentai is the reason why bug and fighting resist each other and are both super effective against dark. Dark in the original japanese is the "Evil" type, and since bug and fighting are the "Heroic" types, they both beat evil and don't damage each other (since heroes help each other).

I always thought that Lokix's shiny was a reference to Zero One since its literally a yellow grasshopper that uses kicks to fight and is one of the recent Kamen Rider series

Its 2-type coverage is insane when you consider that, thanks to Tinted Lens, ONLY Iron Valiant resists both First Impression and Sucker Punch. And since Valiant is OU, there's nothing to stop its UU lead.
