One thing I find really helps you grow as a musician is learning parts that were played on other instruments. Sometimes I have to replicate keyboard parts, or in this case, for a gig tomorrow, the Pedal Steel part in "Blue Bayou." Often it's not possible to perfectly replicate parts from one instrument on another instrument as they have totally different capabilities, but it pushes you outside the normal box and standard routines. It teaches you and stretches your mind and abilities.
