It is time to share with you how we get the 100 LBS of Alaskan Caribou Meat into the freezer. For our family, processing meat is a family experience. We hope you enjoy coming along and learning about the butchering and packaging process for our family. There are a lot of places in Alaska where you can drop off your meat and get it processed, but we have learned to enjoy doing it as a family, even if it is a ton of work!

We processed chickens back in the 50's and 60's. The whole process was a family affair, from slaughter to freezing. Good to see families still doing this together. Many hands make light work

Wonderful video, I've been thinking about buying a quarter of a cow. My research tells me I need to put in the order and may take a couple of months before one becomes available. Next time you have a couple of extra penny invest in a vacuum sealer. It will eliminate all freezer burn. Good luck with your haul. Everything looks good.

Hi Friends, you all explained that so well! Here in Australia you can actually send the animal once killed to the Butcher shop and they will do it all for you including sausages and mince making, obviously it cost per kg of the animal to do this so still cheaper to do this yourself as a family. Thankyou for sharing 👍

Growing up in rural north western Pennsylvania, deer season has always been a very big deal as that was how many families put meat into their freezers and pantry for the winter, and the butchering was always something the family did together.
One thing I miss from my childhood is the canned venison my mother would put up. It was so tender and delicious to eat.

Question ; do you can your salmon? My husband and his brother have in the past and it's Excellent.

This was very interesting to watch. It’s so different than lower 48 deer.

Just pulled my first Alaskan Caribou out from Chicken. Haven't gotten any big game since my Roosevelt Elk in 2006. This was a great refresher walkthrough on what I need to get done in the next day or two.

That heart was HUGE. I have never in my life seen a heart that big 🧐🧐😂 this video was great, you all got a nice chunk of ground caribou in your freezer and the roast and steaks.

Thank you for sharing this as I have never seen the processing of any animal! That hamburger meat sure looks good, do you cook with it just like beef hamburger?

There is Absolutely 💯 no way to go hungry when your supermarket is in your backyard. As long as you can avoid Yogi and boo boo . Salmon for days 😋.

Hey Lauren, I thought for sure you would need to add some fat to the hamburger since it so lean but I guess it’s probably like 95/5. I gotta tell you I watched the video of Hunter getting his caribou & I started to cry 😭 I know that’s silly even my daughter was laughing at me. I get it & please know there is no meanness when I say that. I’m a meat eater too. I’m just emotional about things 😀

Question do you rinse the meat to get the hair off. I started doing that with our venison because i got sick cleaning it by hand. (I mean really sick) i just dried it on paper towles. Turned out fine.

Amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing this! So jealous of your family project! Question: do you also eat the liver? Do you sell any of this meat if we were interested in purchasing?

How does the taste of caribou compare to beef or venison? Is it richer and more gamey like venison is? Can you still cook it to be more rare like beef?
