I absolutely loved your list. You did a great job of describing the books. It’s hard to hear you say you are too young to remember 9-11. It seems like yesterday to me. Im 71. Thank you for placing importance on knowing about the history of events. The Hiding Place is one of my favorite books.

The Hidibg place has a very special place in my heart as my dad read it to my siblings and me when I was a kiddo.

Great list! I am not usually a nonfiction lover.. or at least I thought so until I found a couple of books this year that I really enjoyed. The Hiding Place, The Only Plane in the Sky, and The Day The World Came to Town. Columbine sounds like a really tough read but one that would be impactful. I was in high school when that happened and remember watching the coverage but it felt disconnected from something that could have happened where I was if that makes sense at all. But I know it changed so many things about our school system and culture.

Three books in and I loved each of those in 2021, this is a good start . . .

I loved A Fire Story when I read it a couple years ago. So many other great ones that have been favorites (Only Plane in the Sky last year, Just Mercy a few years). Know My Name is fantastic. How old were you when 9/11 happened? I was in third grade. I agree about the National Geographic documentary - really rocked me when I watched it last Sept). Still waiting for my hold of Will to come in!

I’ve read The Only Plan in the Sky, Columbine and Just Mercy. All were very good. I read The Hiding Place 30 years ago. I think I need to reread it. Thanks for the great suggestions.

Would you consider the graphic novel you mentioned appropriate for a ten year old? He loves history and really enjoys all the Nathan Hale graphic novels. I am always on the hunt for new material for him. Thanks!

Have you read "She said Yes" about the Columbine shooting. It is a story about the Christian girl who was killed. Her mother tells her story. I think you would like it.
