Interestingly enough, Thimbleberries are their own plant! They're native to Washington state, and other areas of the northwest. It's a red berry, similar to a raspberry but much flatter and with much less "meat" to it. It tastes grassy and fresh, not tart, but not too sweet either. I highly reccomend finding a picture or two, because the plants themselves are fantastic!

I love your picturesque, illustrative articulations when regarding food. They're always so eloquent and illuminating.
It's like reading a very well written, detailed book. You cover such an array of attributes.

I love seeing people demonstrate their sensitivity to these little details in food, and what have you. Prompts me to rethink how I experience something like a berry.

Black cap raspberries are my fave! If you're shopping/foraging on the west coast though, thimble berries are a totally different raspberry-family plant, Rubus parviflorus. We like to make sugared black caps - they're nicely dry to begin with, and the crystalized one sugar helps to hold the scent.

Head up to the Upper Peninsula sometime, lots of thimble berries up here. Grow wild in the forest and most of the shops sell a thimbleberry jam. They are red though.

I like that you talk to us like we know each other in real life. Not over acting or forced expressions

I love seeing my favorite berry given the spot light for once! I pick and eat black raspberries from around my house every summer, along with blackberries, blueberries, and occasionally apples!
I recently made a berry crumble from black raspberries, blueberries, and black cherries, after 3 days of hand picking everything but the black cherries! (8 cups of berries for the filling, ugh)
Even though black raspberries are so fragile, they are very much worth it in my book :)
The blackberries will be ripe soon, so I'm looking forward to baking more with them :)

I love black raspberries. They grow wild here in Indiana and make really good jams. There's also blackberry bushes here too, the difference is blackberries are larger, and when you pick them the whole berry comes off the stem where as black raspberries the center is pulled out when picking which makes them hollow on the inside. Personally I like black raspberries more than anything and find picking them to be quite calming.

We have them growing all over our farm. Growing up in West Virginia they were always a staple of summer. So cute to see you try them for the first time.

A friend of mine came across some dried thimble berries a while ago and we tossed some in to a pitcher of iced (green) tea we were brewing and that ended up being some of the best tea I've ever had.

The lack of tartness kept them from overpowering the tea itself, but I still got that raspberry goodness, and it gave the tea an interesting color too. 10/10 would recommend if you get the chance.

These grow in my neighbor’s backyard! Black raspberry ice cream is also weirdly popular in Ohio and so good!

So I really like these shorts about unusual ingredients and spices. You have a wonderful way of describing what we want to know about the subject.

Moved into my house in March and it’s now the end of July and we found a raspberry bush in the back of the house and a black raspberry bush in the front of our house. They’re both very well established and produced some good berries for us! I’d never seen a black raspberry so it was super cool! I learned that they’re not usually sold in stores because they have a lower yield than regular raspberries so there isn’t a point in trying to mass produce them. But they are so good! Especially homegrown/bought from a farmer 🤗🥰

Black raspberries are my favorite fruit! So hard to find outside of a summer farmers market, but so worth it!
