Halloween Village Platform Unboxing & Discussion - Village Display Studio

Hey guys! I just got a new modular Halloween village base in from Village Display Studio and was excited and wanting to show you me unboxing it! You'll see this in a bunch of upcoming videos this season as well as my personal display this year and I wanted to show it off since there isn't really a good place to discuss it in the individual village piece reviews. There's also a bit of of discussion on bases in general!

Great video. I’d love to see a video sometime about how best to set up the power/outlets/power strips, what are the best practices for power for larger displays. Not sure if it’s the most exciting topic but I know it’s one that would be very helpful

German model train company Märklin made a glow in the dark halloween locomotive, cars and caboose. Halloween is slightly popular there even though it isn't part of their culture. A running Halloween train is a neat idea I thought.

Like those new displays! The one with the boggy area looks really cool. I am in the process of trying one of my own this year, à la Carl. A bit stalled b/c I screwed up the stairs a bit & forgot to create a spot for the power cords. Will fix soon.

I would love to purchase platforms but because I'm still growing my collection, I have to figure out a set up that can easily have additional platforms added and still look cohesive with the look I'm going for (neighborhood streets with sidewalks). I've watched Carl's videos but so scared at messing up in the process. 🤔

Building the displays is very therapeutic for me! I get my kids involved so adds fun. Also, I’m pretty OCD but the Halloween display “vibe” in my opinion, has a messy, old, dilapidated, un-even look, so mess ups are actually added benefits.
A note on resin- did my first resin pond last Halloween season display, added LED lights on pond base sides, dead fish, skulls, a toxic barrel etc. . I read and researched for days. Made the resin, added a little pastel color to put a green tint- used 2 layers of hodge podge as a base on insulation foam-(blue foam form lowes) But while pouring resin, it came out quicker than I thought. Ended up pouring the entire resin vs layering. Looked really good, greenish-clear and at first-could see all the details I spent hours putting inside ( you know, all the stuff no one will see but why not) then all of a sudden - it got real hot and started bubbling. Had to run it outside cause I thought the reaction was going to melt the foam. I mean it got hot! Finally calmed down and ended up looking pretty cool. The bubbles ended up looking more like a toxic effect, especially when LED lights are on. But you cannot see all the details etc I put in. So the point is, pour it in layers unless you want a lot of bubbles !!! Kids got a laugh though, me running through the house with a display base🤪
If you have time- definitely try to make displays your self. Very fun.

Awesome bases that you got there, thanks for showing yours as well. I built one for myself to go with my Lemax ones, but it's nowhere near as nice as those. Gotta up my game I guess. LOL
