In this video you will learn how to extend a Linux LVM partition. I will demonstrate how I can extend my /var partition by extending an existing disk. You can follow similar steps for virtual box, vmware workstation and vmware player VMs.

Enjoy!

I did it on Ubuntu server in VirtualBox and it worked. Million thanks.
I spent about 4 hours searching the Internet. Your video is the first working solution.

Thanks a bunch!  How did you figure all this out?

The vg name seems to be "centos" for CentOS 7.
Use "lvextend -l +100%FREE /dev/centos/root" to get the exact free space left.
CentOS 7 also switched to xfs so replace resize2fs with "xfs_growfs -d /".

Great! One change is there in centos 8. We will have to use xfs_growfs mount point

Thanks Helped heaps on Cpanel when my root volume was full and nothing except .html files would load. (e.g. sql, mail, etc) ran out of memory

Please correct these issues and rerun updates.
fatal: cPanel & WHM cannot update due to insufficient disk space. The system detected 0.00 MB free, but requires at least 1 GB free at '/usr/local/cpanel' in order to successfully update.
fatal: Your RPM database appears unstable. It is not possible at the moment to install a simple RPM.

You need to do the same DEMO with using only FDISK assuming you don't have LVM tools.
