Installing an Architrave in Under 14 Minutes

In this video Tony shows you How To Fit an Architrave

He starts off by measuring the margins on the previously finished architrave and uses those measurements to mark out where the linings will be installed

Next Tony measures out the plinth and begins to make his cuts, then screws in the bottom plinth blocks. The architraves are then measured to the appropriate length and cut to fit each side of the door.

Then Tony nails the architraves flush along the side, its time to glue the the top of the architrave to the sides, securing it with 4 small nails.

Lastly Tony taps in the last few nails along the architrave to secure it and the job is done

Lovely stuff Tony. Nice to see all different ways it's done! Really nice and tight mitres looking clean. 👌🏼

This is how I was taught back in the day too Tony👊 I always spaced my 1.5" ovals the length of my hammer which divided up nicely on a 6'6" leg👍Thanks for the video bud🤩

Thanks for this Tony, I’m putting in two new doors and frames in our house in a few weeks time as I’m partitioning off a room to add a large built in wardrobe. Your tips here are invaluable - Thankyou!

Great looking facings..if you machined them yourself hope they have been moulded to cup inwards.. really important if you don't want big gaps appearing.

Nice to see real wood being used. My joiner said it would take ages to get wood and used mdf for skirting and door frames with big ugly plinths which I hate. Feel like ripping it out now.

Lots of good detail in this one Tony; sorry for the questions but the only silly question is one is the one that wasn't asked. What screws were used for the bottom plinths here please? Also, if you were using MDF architrave, what would your preferred method to glue the mitre? would you use the Evo Stik wood glue or a two-part mitre product? Thanks for this video.

Might be a bit overkill but I biscuit my mitres. Great work on this channel 👊

It looks perfect though! All the houses round me the facings are sometimes 200mm+ and also Pitch pine, total different ballgame to the mdf shit thesedays!

I always keep a thor soft/hard face assembly hammer at hand for "adjusting" rather than using my estwing. It's always that last tap that dents the face of the moulding 😅

Proper way to do it Tony, Inch and half ovals 👊🏻.
Definitely a dob of PVA on the mitres, rather than mitre mate. 😉
