Ahhhh thank you
I’m in school for automotive tech and I’m due for new rear brakes and I needed to learn how to put them in service mode in order to change them myself. This helped tremendously, thank you.

Well it's sure nice to see someone on YouTube who knows what they're doing. I saw some really screwed up videos on brake pad replacement on YT yesterday! Those videos are dangerous. One guy suggested taking the electric motor off the rear caliper and hand twisting the piston back. There were a couple of us that pointed out the service mode for retracting the piston. Plus a couple of them showed them using a large flat head screw driver to push the front caliper back into the caliper. I use a C- Clamp personally because it's just easier.

I thought technology was supposed to make things easier and more efficient . When does that start?

What about if it's got the push button start? Same process?

Okay just tried this on my 2016 fusion hybrid, there is no key on these and is a wireless fob. It works to activate the service mode, but I have no clue how to shut it off now lol.
edit- okay, to get maintinence mode to shut off, let the car sit for like 5 minutes and then holding the gas and e-brake up just press the on button. it will make a ton of noise as the break motors rengage and flash a few times. but that worked thanks.

I've never had to have the transmission in neutral for this to work.

I had NO freakin idea that this crap even existed..I'm glad I researched if there are any special procedures for the rear brakes..I was told that if you don't do this it will cost ALOT OF DAMN MONEY TO REPAIR THE PARKING BRAKE ACTUATORS

Does anyone know if this works the same with push button start? Gotta do brakes and rotors here soon.

So I did my brakes a while ago not knowing about this. I replaced the brakes they work just fine and today I got a parking brake failure. Could this be due to this issue?
