Silverado Fire - Orange County, CA 10/27/2020

A CEDR volunteer created this Google Earth Studio visualization of the #SilveradoFire infrared heat mapping and terrain. The fire is currently threatening #Irvine, #LakeForest and other #OrangeCounty, CA communities.

As of the morning of October 27th, the fire has burned over 11,200 acres.

The amazing thing about this video is that it shows how far the winds blew sparks and started more fires great distances from the main one.

The California Air Quality Boards in each county continue to restrict prescribed burns because that would make the "air quality" worse. in the last 30 years has had more and more fires with more and more intense burns with all the fuels that accumulate. I watched a video of a Cal Fire supervisor delicately saying that they are not allowed to do prescribed burns which would help reduce the intensity of these fires. Yes, Santa Ana winds made it much worse, but winds dont start fires.

Great video, sometimes wonder if the burn areas, are easier to start building on. just like El Morro fire in the 90s .it looks like the next planned community.

Can you share a new one, to show where it is at now? We were evacuated last night and were asked to not return to Foothill Ranch, Silverado Fire, until possibly tomorrow.

How cool would it be if Cal Fire and OCFA used technology like this on their websites to keep people informed? Their current illustrations look like something a 3 year old did.
