Praying for you all from San Diego area. I had to middle of night evac in 2007 and a friend just had to evac from ground zero Lawson Valley in Valley Fire. Here are tips from us both:

- don't be the hero and stay home if you are under evac. If you are under evac you are under very real risk - they don't do it just because. With these winds all bets are off - when we had similar conditions in 2007 embers traveled TEN MILES!

If you are even remotely close to evac zones, consider packing your car and backing it into your garage or driveway. In this situation, police likely will come through with bullhorns and it may be a "Get out NOW!" type of thing if these strong Santa Anas keep pushing the fire.

If you have to or choose to evacuate, here are tips from us that have been there done that:

- walk around your house and video everything incl cabinets/closets. This will help if worst-case your home is damaged.
- take your computer, i- or android everything
- take phone chargers/long last batteries
- take needed meds etc for you and pets
- take food, clothing for 3-7 days
- take all legal documents and esp insurance policies
- my friend implores you to wet down your house and plants if possible; he is convinced this helped save his home when his nearby neighbors' homes burned down to ash - the ones you likely saw on TV
- consider putting wet towels at foot of exterior doors inside to keep out smoke
- consider turning on all lights and open curtains (but NOT windows) so firefighters can better see your home in heavy smoke if they need to defend it
- when I left I put a sign in window on printer paper/marker stating occupants/pets and that we all had evacuated. You may want to list a contact #. When we went to fire station after to thank the heroes, they said this REALLY helps keep them from having to risk their lives to search an empty home.

Hope this helps!

My friend had no family nearby so they had to go to an evac center. He said they were great - tons of water, got food brought in, and also gave them hotel vouchers as they had to stay out several days as so many homes and infrastructure were destroyed. They had phos-check and ash all over and services severed but were SO grateful for the firefighters!

We so appreciate all of you firefighters, police, HotShot crews, pilots...everyone fighting these awful fires! Prayers to you all and especially the injured!

I’m near North Lake in Irvine and at the top of North Lake Bridge I can actually see the fires cresting the hill but no evac yet. The nearby HS is being used as a shelter too... one of the few places that people can stay overnight. But worried about sleeping

People need information not how bad the fire is. We know. What is the fire perimeter, show the updated map, how many structures if any are destroyed, shelters places, where can people find more info, etc. What you provide is just sensational.

So the wind's gonna be just as bad tomorrow. I hope there aren't too many people "weathering the storm" in the evacuation zones.

Please everyone in California, I think it might be time to move out for your own safety. The danger is too much to list. Good luck and God Bless.

Crazy California and Colorado are on fire I dont this is ever gonna change. These past 10 years have been the start of things to come if we don't start using more solar and electric vehicles. So be prepared for over 100 almost every summer and fire season to be almost year round. Welcome to the future we all have contributed to and have a part or hand in. As we don't invest in cleaner running cars and electricity sources.
