Ontario inks deals with Atlantic provinces to loosen inter-provincial trade barriers in Canada

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced new legislation aimed at reducing inter-provincial trade barriers during a press conference supported by New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt and Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston. The pair signed free trade agreements with Ontario to "support true free trade within Canada."
Ford said those internal barriers are holding back the Canadian economy in the same way tariffs could hurt it in the future.
"With President Trump taking direct aim at Canada's economy, it can't be business as usual," he said.
The legislation will affect various sectors, including labour laws, safety regulations, and alcohol sales, and will expedite the integration of healthcare professionals from other provinces into the workforce.
"These agreements are a blueprint and they're a challenge to other provinces and territories to join us. It's a win for every business owner, a win for every worker and every community held back by red tape and duplication," Ford said.
