One more big move in the world of luxury fashion: Prada just bought Versace! But...what does that actually mean for Prada, for Versace and for luxury fashion in general? I'm trying to break this down so that we can understand what Versace will look like under new ownership and what Prada's intentions are...ENJOY!

Versace is maximalist, unapologetic, sex, glamour, colour, bling, energy, rock and roll, antiquity inspired/Baroque. Versace is more is more and fun. Either you understand Versace or you don't.

I feel that Prada buying Versace is a brilliant move! And it will restore the sales back to Versace. Versace sales slipped and they lost some of their long-time customers when they were sold to Capri. Capri owns Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo. And the long-time customers that left Versace, felt Capri did not know how to run a real luxury house efficiently, marketed, or ensure a proven creative talent will always be kept at the helm. The reason they felt this way is because Capri's current roster of brands didn't include luxury brands with Versace's caliber. I think Prada buying Versace will bring all those long-time customers back that left. I also feel it makes the luxury fashion world feel assured and confidant in Versace again because Prada is at the helm, which is at the top of their game right now.

I would love to see them tap into nostalgia and the archives of Versace :D There were so many past and current popular culture moments. I also think there could be some really cool cross-collabs with Prada and miu miu. And pop-up events as well.

I always saw Versace and Roberto Cavalli as interchangeable. I’m rooting for both brand’s aesthetic to rise up cause I’m so so tired of quiet luxury’s snooze fest. Don’t need logos plastered all over but bring back the ornate drama, it’s time to shine again.

I’m a Versace fan and it was really the first brand which bring me interested in fashion. Yes I am not happy with capri buying this and it’s not like the Versace in the last collection. Hope Prada gives new life into Versace.
