Rest in Peace Vera. You did more for a generation than most could even begin to appreciate.

My parents loved this song. My Dad was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. This song was treasured by all from the Allied Forces. Thank you Dame Vera Lynn for the comfort you gave to millions and millions. ❤️🌞🌍🌏

For the technology nerds - what almost sounds like an organ in the background was a Novachord, one of the earliest synthesizers.

If this song is good enough to be mentioned by Queen of England Queen Elizabeth II in her fifth special address in her 68-year reign on April 5, 2020, it deserves another listen by us all. Greatness is never out of date.

For me this is the best version of this song because of its simplicity. Vera's voice is sweet and pure and the organ accompaniment
allows her vocal to breathe without smothering it in orchestral and choral mush. RIP Vera.

The very best version of the loveliest of songs. Vera Lynn had a wonderful voice. 103 years old now and still beloved by the nation.

Many thanks to each and every one of you who posted a comment here, she was truly a special lady and this song has been near the top of my favorites for decades. I am pleased that with the help of Mr. Moke and my webmaster, Trishah, who created the visual presentation, I've been able to provide this version for your heart-felt enjoyment!

My ex's mum passed away recently. She was born in 1929 in East London and lived through the Blitz. I came here to pay tribute to her generation, her life and one of her favorite songs.

With the Covid virus this song has new poignancy. WAMU’s “Big Broadcast” was playing this tonight and I just burst into tears.

Vera Lynn singing this song is one of my earliest memories as a child in the late 40s in Australia.

I am aware that this song is about going to war and that is tragic, but it reminded me just now that I haven't seen my family in over a year. Two cousins were born that I have yet to meet, one relative died and I couldn't be there. I work in a cemetery and the increasing number of funerals is very depressing. Especially when you see only three or four people attending, crying but standing two meters apart.
