I have never really understood the bias against and exclusion of women in chess. In my second chess tournament ever I lost to a girl who was the same age as me but obviously a lot stronger, being a 1600 elo player while I was only 1300 at the time. I thought nothing of it as she was obviously stronger than me, and probably even a little underrated. Chess is one of the most beautiful combinations of art and skill, and should be welcoming to all people.

I remember schools teaching us, "Don't post anything you wouldn't want your grandmother reading." Elementary school me thought that was a silly, stupid, and extreme sentiment for goody two shoes. Now I realize just how right it was. Professionalism above all else.
