A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The tremor was recorded around noon on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022, at 12:01 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 13.6 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8.

In Kastélli, located 3 km from the epicenter, Thrapsanon, 4 km away, Arkalochori, 7 km away, Arkalochori, 7 km away, and Ano Archanes, 15 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Malia, located 17 km from the epicenter, Néa Alikarnassos, 22 km away, Heraklion, 23 km away, and Gazi, 28 km away.
