I’ve never been in the military, but am interested to know why an aircraft would take off 12:41 and land 8:34 with what appears to be an open cockpit hatch?

I never once secured an aircraft to the 'floor' when I was in V-3 or V-1. Do better with your naval terminology. USS Nassau (LHA-4), 96-00. Best gator in the fleet.
