Enjoy Heather S.'s review of Luck. Luck is one of the best films of the year! Take an unforgettable trip to the Land of Luck. Test out your luck in this exciting movie!

Luck follows Sam (Eva Noblezada), a very unlucky young adult. When she finds a lucky penny it turns her luck around; but when she loses it, she goes on a journey to retrieve it. Along for the ride is Bob the cat (Simon Pegg) who takes Sam to the Land of Luck to find another lucky penny.

This is such an endearing movie. Sam represents all of us whenever we have a bad day, except that for Sam, every day is a bad day. It’s hilarious when every detail in her life goes wrong. The film is aesthetically pleasing. The color green is plastered throughout the entire film to symbolize luck and the vital part it plays. Another genius detail is how black cats represent bad luck and the lovable character Bob (Simon Pegg), a black cat, is who brings luck to Sam. The world building is exquisite. As Sam is transported to the Land of Luck, so are audiences. Viewers will want to visit and perhaps even live in this green and gold colored beautiful island. The wheels and platforms move smoothly, making Sam’s arrival scene incredibly soothing to watch. The visuals are outstanding. The Land is awe-inspiring with huge glass domed buildings and marble walls. Even the city where Sam lives is realistic, down to the puddles and every hair on Bob’s head is detailed. A standout feature of this film is the voice acting. Each voice matches perfectly with its character design and personality. Bob’s Scottish accent fits with his expressions and attitude. He definitely steals every scene he’s in. Another scene stealer is Jerry (Colin O’Donoghue); he’s magnificent. Fans are sure to love him from the moment he asks Sam if she’s ever had grilled cheese. One bothersome detail is the animated movement of the characters’ mouths. When the characters speak their faces are pinched and their mouths barely open when they speak.

The moral of the film is to make the best of every situation. Even though Sam struggles daily with her bad luck, she never lets that get her down. She has a positive outlook and lives every day as if it’s her best and last.

I give Luck 5 out of 5 stars and recommend for ages 9 to 18, plus adults. It begins streaming on Apple TV+ August 5, 2022.
