The Galactic Council decides to force the Terran Empire into a devastating conflict. What they don't realize is that humans have simply been biding their time, hiding their true strength. "It was the reaction of a species that has been waiting for a excuse" ya that actually sums up humanity

“They are too civilized, too evolved to get there hands dirty”
I’m guessing they haven’t seen us play D&D before. Now THAT is pure chaos

"So you're saying that the enemy are not humans?"
"Yes... but.-"
"One moment, " *Turns around* "You heard that boys?! No rules, so let's go all out for a change!"

I was half expecting the Terrans to turn up on the opposite side of the war simply due to the ultimatum. But upon reflection, the actual result is much much smarter. They come to the Council's aid, demonstrate their immense power, and stroll away with a vassal state while eliminating a threat that would presumably have been a problem for the Terrans in the future as well. And presumably dissuade many other would-be conquerors.

Humans have never been afraid to fight, just afraid of what we become in war.

The ultimatum must have shaped the ending, right? Hmm? Did anyone ever ask the "empire" for help? They were waiting for the right time you just never asked for help and then when you do it's a threat. I think the council should feel lucky the empires fleet didn't immediately point there guns at the councils fleet.

The moral of this whole story is as far as humanity is concerned "F Around and find out."

"They never raised their voices, that was the worst thing... the fury of the Humans.

"And then we discovered why. Why these Humans, who had fought like gods and demons, why they'd run away and hidden... they were being kind."

Was it Teddy Roosevelt who said, "speak softy but carry a big stick" 👀🤔😎

It's not a war crime the first time.

The saying is actually “Better the devil you know than the ANGEL you don’t”!

We aren't afraid of war, we're afraid of being alone again.

Do not fear the species that would grasp the first chance of starting a war. Instead, fear the one that seems reluctant and prefer diplomatic methods over military methods despite having vast resources. It's not a sign of weakness or cowardice, but a sign of utter control and mastery of war combined with a deep knowledge of any possible opponent.

The first 9 minutes of the story repeats itself almost completely.

Gotta love the veiled threats in the communication before the battle. "We believe in being prepared." (Just think what else we might be prepared for. Are _you_ prepared?) "[They're] a formidable enemy. It would be unwise to underestimate them." (We're formidable too. You've been underestimating us.) "We have faced similar threats before." (They aren't around any more. This one didn't worry us yet.) "Rest assured, Commander. We are ready." (We have _been_ ready. We're more ready than you.)

"We accept. Prepare." Almost as good as the Lacodaemonians' laconic response to a threat which was two words, which translate to "If."

Humanity joined the galactic council when they mastered diplomacy. They mastered diplomacy, only after perfecting war.

The Galactic Council couldn't even defend themselves, and the Terrans distinctly hinted that even worse was out there than whet they just faced. If the Council plays it stupid, they'll be facing the next invaders alone without the Terrans coming to the rescue. I guess time will tell.
