Woodturning Two Monkeypod Bowls

Simply awful to turn, amazingly beautiful results!

Anyone that's watched my woodturning videos knows how sharp I keep my tools. this wood didn't care at all, lol... THE DUST! It came off so fine at times that it looked like smoke! My shop is covered with the stuff.

But, in the end it was worth it, as this wood is truly something special. The contrasting grain colors in the heartwood of dark and light brown, also contrast with the clean yellow sapwood. Some flashy chatoyance was an added surprise.

Thanks so much for watching! I hope you enjoy it. Your time is valuable to me, and much appreciated.

FYI I am now considering sponsorship proposals. I've been turning them down for a couple years now, but the time has come to move forward with my channel. Rest assured, if I review an item I'll give you the good and bad of it. If I get a percentage of any sale, I'll be up front about it, and will make sure you get a great deal first. I will also be publishing dedicated videos to certain items which will enhance my workshop and channel, and hopefully yours as well. Just thought all my loyal viewers and subscribers would like this heads up. Thanks! -Rod

Two beautiful pieces, Rod. Some of the nicest wood has a challenge to it. Makes the work produced from it extra special. Thank you for the enjoyable viewing.

The bowls are beautiful, Rod, and I agree with you that the dust problem is reason enough to avoid turning monkey pod in the future.

Very Beautiful. It is a shame that no one has come up with a reliable way to turn by hand with vacuum at the tool. Again, Well Done Marine! Semper Fi!

Every 'Nam-era Sailor is intimarely familiar with monkeypod, the wood du jour for Filipino wood carvers. Thousands of Lazy Susans and bowls still reside in our homes today. I had no idea it was so powdery, but yes, beautiful wood. Very nice work..!
