Still one of my favourite 16 bit racing games. Had great fun in the 90's with the multiplayer and Amiga-owning friends.

2:43 The Eagle eyed might notice you've failed to do your research before making a claim.

If you'd asked
Andrew Morris about who the pictures in the background were, you'd know that:

Botj the pictures on the wall are based on people he had worked with, a programmer and a tester.
The guy with the glasses left long before Super Cars, the tester left early 90s

Great review, thanks for sharing. I didn't know about that updated PC version, I'm going to have to check that out. On the ST, we used to put the player names as 'I walk the hill' and 'inwards' for unlimited amounts of money. Great fun.

Will definitely give this a try soon. Whenever I'd heard of it I always assumed it was just a slower Super Sprint knockoff.

I'm late to the party but I'll leave this comment for people who might want to try this game after seeing this review. First, easy, medium and hard mode are not just about the game speed being different, they're different sets of tracks. Second, and most importantly for me, try not to use cheat codes to have loads of money as it ruins one of the most fun aspects of the game. You can buy and sell everything (missiles, engine upgrades, etc.) and prices fluctuate after each race. Half of the fun is trying to use gadgets sparingly in early races and play the market. Buy low, sell high and prepare your car for the later and harder races.. You also want to drive carefully to avoid damaging your car so you have more money to play the market and work on your build. For me, it's this gameplay mechanic that gives this game such a high replay value. If you never played it this way, give it a try!

I like how the player cars are the only vehicles that get a paint job. The other competitors are simply primer gray. :)

One thing that always bugs me about so many Amiga games: Killer music on the title zero music in-game. It's so frustrating.

It's certainly not a limitation of the hardware since many great Amiga games have music and sound effects simultaneously.

I'm not sure where you got your information from, but the two guys on the wanted poster behind the policeman at 2:41 are definitely not part of the development team as stated.

Multiplayer redundant. Multiplayer was the main reason why I liked this game so much.

I mostly bought weapons as an investment though, because prices fluctuated heavely

Nice. Some other good amiga games that it would be cool to see you do full reviews for:
Apidya
Banshee
Benefactor (sort of like prince of persia)
Chuck Rock 2 (different levels on MD/GEN, but same on MCD as on amiga?)
D/Generation
Disposable Hero
Exile (metroid-like, highly advanced)
Fury of the Furries
Globdule
Gravity Force 1-2
Hired Guns
It Came From the Desert (adventure/horror)
Lionheart
North & South
Paradroid '90
Pirates! Gold
Perihelion: The Prophecy (cyberpunk rpg)
Ruff 'n Tumble
Scorched Earth (worms-like, if not a predecessor)
Shadow of the Beast III
Traps 'n' Treasures
Turrican 2
Toki (good arcade port)
Virocop (like chaos engine or alien breed)
Wings of Fury
Wizkid
Yo! Joe!
Z-Out (best r-type clone?)

The 8 directional scrolling engine is not smooth, it only seems to update where it is supposed to be scrolling towards every 4 or 5 frames on PAL machines. Odd that the same programmer then went on to code the most accomplished, ney arcade quality, 2.5D scaling bitmap engine for Lotus Turbo Challenge.
