Zephyr's Housetruck, Taos

Zephyr, a self confessed hippy, lived in this housetruck, a work of art, for over 30 years. It is in great condition and the interior wood work is exceptional. It is a relic of a different age of travel where housetrucks roamed the country from art fairs to barter fairs. Often these housetruckers would come together and congregate in "gypsy" camps. They had the freedom to travel with their home. Some call them land yachts or desert schooners.

It was so cool of Tim and Leslie to get that truck out of the river flood plain and have it in Taos for awhile. I was really hoping for the ”Taos Hippie Truck Museum”, a dream gone somewhere else, .But that was a beautiful truck, lovely windows and woodwork, very warm, the wood stove almost cooked me one night in the Winter when I visited Z in El Rito! Fortune would have it out of there before that flood came a few years back! Trucks are cool, especially house trucks or homes on wheels!

This looks a lot like the truck some hippie friends lived in with their four kids back in the Seventies. I've been looking for their truck!

i miss my grandma and miss spending time with her in her beautiful house truck has always been my favorite but i grew up with this truck.

What a great inspiration!  She found a way to have a great quality of life - - simple living has given her a very full, large life. My friends had a sofa bed and a painting above that pulled down into a double bed for the girls and then there was a loft over the cab where the parents slept and where us kids watched the Planet of the Apes at the Drive-In in Taos.
