A few additions.
1. To avoid the parking brake warnings on the dash
A. After reinstalling the pads and caliper turn the parking brake bolt counter clockwise until it makes contact with the Piston. Then back off a full turn. This will space the parking brake properly from the Piston.
2. The caliper bolts are retained with rubber grommets. You can twist and twist and the just stop turning at one point. To easily release the caliper you should push the bolts out of the rubber about an inch.
Overall though this is a good tutorial. Thanks

I just did the rear brakes on a 2018 S90 T5. I watched this video, as well as a few others, before attempting the job. The Volvo dealer gave dire warnings about them not doing the job. A local mechanic didn't want to do the job as he didn't want to risk messing up the Volvo parking brake electronics. Fear not, this is an easy job that most home mechanics can easily tackle. If you have done rear brakes before, you can do this, it just takes a little bit longer. The non-standard tools you will need are a 5mm and 7mm allen key, or socket and an e-12 Torx socket. You can do without the Torx socket, but I found it helpful. You can disconnect the power plug to the EPB motor, it does not cause any lights to come on if you disconnect it. Just make sure you turn the EPB actuator on the caliper all the way in. I used the Torx socket to twist the parking brake actuator on the caliper. Do it by hand and turn till it stops. It is not difficult to turn and you should stop when you feel resistance. Then follow the instructions in this video. Once you have the wheels back on, just activate the parking brake a few times. You will hear the motors whirring. No warning lights came on. Don't forget to bed in your pads when you are done.

Just completed the rear brakes on my 2017 S90. I was a little worried about taking this project on after reading about the warnings, etc. However, I dove into it and happy to report that I had no warnings or issues after taking L Mars advice...don't disconnect the brake motor cable. There's plenty of room to work. There's also no need to take the plastic clip off the brake motor either. The T25 bolts are easily accessible without removing the clip. One additional clarification: After compressing the the brake piston with a C clamp and turning the brake motor shaft clockwise until it bottomed out, I installed the brake pads on the caliper bracket and reinstalled the caliper. After tightening the caliper pins, I reinstalled the brake motor. I then turned the brake motor shaft counter clockwise until the pads were gently snug against the rotor (no play in the pads). You may need to (gently!) use pliers to turn the shaft (for me it was less than one full counter clockwise rotation). As I said, no issues. First side took 40 minutes. Second side about 20 minutes. The savings were well worth the research. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for making this video. Its fantastic. Do you have the Torque Specs for tightening the bolts?

Helped me save about a ton of money. They said Volvo was tricky to do a brake change on but thank you for the video.

Question for you.
I have done numerous brake jobs and have never had this problem but not sure if there is an electronic issue or something like that.
I have a 2018 XC60.
I dove into changing all four rotors and pads and was not able to depress the rear rotor piston, then watched how to do it online. It was easy. The fronts were exceptionally easy. Got everything done and took it for a test drive and could not get the brakes to stay firm. If I didn't touch the brakes for 20 seconds driving down the road its like pushing the brake for the first time after a brake job.
It only takes one pump to get them up but they will not hold pressure. The car only has 90, 000 km on it and its like new so I don't think it is the master cylinder or anything like that.
I checked out your video to see if I missed something and it seemed strait forward.

Kyle, Nice video -- did you have to lube the caliper pins or the brake pad guide ? as in other videos on Youtube. Thanks.

Has anyone commenting here had an issue with their rotors warping? My moms 2018 XC60 has some serious rotor warp, at highway speed it feels like we're just on Belgium blocks. We're wondering if it's from the parking brake being applied every time the car gets turned off, although the rotors shouldn't be nearly hot enough for that, or from the adaptive cruise control. The fronts were replaced yesterday and now after watching this video I think I can get the back done as well. Thanks for posting it!

DON’T DISCONNECT the brake motor cable (yellow cap) from the parking brake motor. This is what causes the brake warning light. Leave it connected and it will not generate the error. All the other steps are spot on. You can also use allen wrenches to remove the 4 bolts.

How do you know for sure that the 2017-2023 xc-60 are all exactly the same?

I'm working on this NOW and the ROTOR will not remove. Both rear rotors are stuck in lower left position. They DO spin....but even after hammering it seems as though it's nearly magnetic holding it in place!! Any ideas???

On most cars with electronic parking brake setup I believe that you have to do a relearn procedure on the electronics to reset the valves and positioning and all that
