I’m an Italian train conductor.
I think there was some issues with the suspension system in some of the coaches. This train, I confirm, isn’t comfortable at all, but it isn’t also this much uncomfortable. Surely it isn’t the best train in Italy. But it is so damn reliable. Never a problem.

Go try the SBB ones for a second opinion.

On the Switzerland-Italy lines, we have ETR610 trains in two versions.
- A very similar Trenitalia one to the one shown in the video with the same interior furnishing.
- The SBB version which has so much added comfort in 1st class. Simply because they use fabric seats which are more cushy, and they have carpet in the 1st class.
Hard floor in the Italian version contribute to less noise damping and the leather seat is quite hard, I agree.

And I feel the SBB has a better maintenance standard: no shaking seats like in the video, very smooth ride, electrical outlets that work for sure. The Italian outlets do not hold firmly onto the prongs, and some have dirt in the holes that just prevent the socket from being useful :p
I found out that the reclining mechanism is quite fragile. I regularly find some seats that remain in the fully reclined mode as the spring holding the lever is broken.

Actually, by SBB standards, I love this stock. The experience you had is not representative of the potential.

J'habitais Desvres, à peu près Boulogne, quand j'étais jeune (il y a une cinquantaine d'années) et je continue à faire des visites fréquentes à Outreau pour faire des achats (le prochain sera janvier 30!) et donc je connais bien la ville et ses environs.


Votre commentaire est absolument la première fois que j'ai jamais entendu un comparaison entre Boulogne et Rome !!

Wow, what a shame to see your experience of the ETR.600 is so poor! I have numerous experiences of these sets, and really enjoyed them (at various different companies), never noticed any of those really horrible problems you had. My longest ride was over six hours, and if I am honest, it was bliss. They've since become some of my favourite trains because of this. Try the Polish ones when you're back over, they're real class, and the seat cushions are very well padded.

J'adore Termini qui est une gare très vivante. L'arrivée à Venise est toujours aussi spectaculaire, c'est super beau. Par contre, la pendulation, c'est pas ma tasse de thé. Merci pour cette belle vidéo.

During my vacation a few years back, I preferred Fercciarossa to Frecciagento when I traveled. There was one route I had to use Frecciagento because there was no Frecciarossa option. The cheap seats in 2nd hurt my back. The trip was only 2 hours though, so no big deal.

After Covid pandemic, if it is possible, please try to travel on Alfa Pendular, the tilting high-speed train in Portugal.

About the delay in Florence: Florence seems to sort of a bottleneck on this line where delays often happen due to various techical problems (signaling malfunction etc.). I remember once travelling on the same route on Frecciarossa 1000 and that train was supposed to call only in Padova, Mestre and Venezia SL, but we got stuck for quite some time in the suburb of Florence (the train didn't even enter the station and reverse, but took the bypass). And several people told me similar stories.

The shaking is most likely due to the train tracks... runs smoothly on newly built routes🤣

one more thing about ETR610 is that it's 15kv capable making a Rome-Milan-Zurich trip possible. The reason for is that Switzerland uses 15kv ac like Germany and Austria

I can literally smell the soap through the video . Its got such a distinctive smell . Both the soap and the train (I guess the way they clean it)

Nice trip report and the seats look very good the interior and exterior and the free snack and drink but the constant rattling must have been a bit of a turnoff

Poor maintenance. Most likely problems with wheels or bogies. It's similar to trains called "fast regional". In that case lot of noise too. It's a shame though: Etr 610 is still a nice train. I suppose they focus on the etr 400 and 500 for the maintenance.
