Lured to Qatar by the promise of good salaries and regular trips home – they have their passports confiscated on arrival, and their wages slashed. Some work seven days a week, fifteen hours a day, returning home to overcrowded slums where even stray animals struggle to survive.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will cost the country $200 billion, and for the contractors charged with making it happen – finance is all that matters. “They don’t care how many die, only how much they get” claims one insider.

Yet despite the appalling conditions, some are better off in Qatar than back home. "This is our life. In my country there is no work. Too much corruption. No money, no work."

I did work in Qatar as an Electrical Engineer and have witnessed hundreds of such labor camps where living conditions are shockingly worst. Even the poor people in Pakistan/India have better living condition then in Qatar. I resigned after one year and have conveyed this message to maximum places possible but nothing happened, in the end i left.

These western reporters have highlighted in past but Qatar have bribed Fifa and all such Media Companies.
UAE is better but Qatar deserves to go isolated. I dont respect these western guys anymore as nothing fruitful came out of their voice.
Everyone who tried was either bribed or they stopped after receiving no positive response, hence entire world is responsible for this.

2019. Greetings from Qatar. Everything is the same. Constructors working for same salary, housekeepers also. Only bus drivers get a bit better. But they and security staff still living by 8 people in room. One washroom for 8 people even for hotel staff(Sheraton accommodation).

The rightful place of the Gulf Arabs according to their fruits of their labour is at the bottom of the pecking order. People around the world should do their best to ensure that this status-quo which relies on vast oil and gas deposits is rightfully overcome as swiftly as possible. Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions where they are really due, not in Israel.

Not Only Qatar the entire middle East countries like Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Bahrain Dubai all have similar poor Human Resource Management and human rights violations.These are Hypocrite Countries... people go through overloaded work .. overtime works with no extra allowances or benefits...very very few companies maintain Minimum standard of human resource management..Even engineer managers also face poor work culture
